Leah E. Kleimo, 85, of Conneaut, OH, left this earth to join all the family and loved ones who passed before her, with her three daughters at her side on Sunday afternoon, March 7, at the Ashtabula County Nursing Home in Kingsville, OH. Born April 15, 1924, in Conneaut, she was the last surviving of 12 children of Andrew and Hilda (Kauppi) Jarvi.
Leah attended Conneaut High School and married Sulo K. Kleimo on October 22, 1949. Through the years, she worked at the Astatic, Weatherseal Co., Norton Company, Nutone, and Premix. She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
A devoted homemaker, she enjoyed gardening and canning her own produce. She loved to cook and bake her favorite Finnish recipes to celebrate her Finnish heritage, and enjoyed collecting recipes to prepare for her family. Leah was very proud of her heritage and spoke Finnish fluently. She had many hobbies including weaving rugs, and enjoyed horse shoes, fishing, flower gardening, and outings at the family beach picnic campground.
Leah especially loved the Christmas holiday season and decorated her home with her extensive collection of holiday items.
Leah was a big Cleveland Indians fan, and was also a Conneaut Spartan Band and CHS sports enthusiast. She attended every event that she could. She also enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading, and playing with her cat Mya.
Survivors include her three daughters, Susan Esposito of Ashtabula, Joan Richards and Karen Simons both of Conneaut; four grandchildren, Christine Pipers of Conneaut, Eric (Kim) Richards of Conneaut, Mark Esposito and Scott Esposito both of Cleveland; eight great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and numerous more distant relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 59 years, Sulo K. Kleimo on May 4, 2009; six brothers, Vernon, Ralph, Oliver, Fred, Edward, and Henry Jarvi; and five sisters, Viola Twitchell, Ruth Linwood, Sylvia Kantola, Martha Roboski, and Katherine Schlaich.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, March 13, at the Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, OH, with the Rev. Franklin J. Gore, pastor of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, North Kingsville, OH.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6 to 8 PM, and on Saturday from 10:00 until the time of the service at 11:00.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or to the family. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Linda M. Lockwood, 46, of Conneaut, died Sunday afternoon, February 28, 2010 in New Smyrna Beach, FL. She was born January 1, 1964 in Cleveland, OH, the daughter of Lawrence Papotta and June Georskey.
An area resident for most of her life, Linda worked for 10 years at General Aluminum in Conneaut and owned her own day care. She was a member of the Conneaut Eagles #4084, and the Conneaut Moose Lodge. She enjoyed motorcycles, cooking, music, dancing, camping, outdoor gatherings, and was an avid shopper. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and her family. She loved and cherished every child as if they were her own.
Survivors include her mother June Georskey of Conneaut; her husband, Howie Lockwood of Conneaut; two daughters, Nicole (Josh) Maunus, of Parma Heights, OH, and Rashel Hargett, of Ashtabula; her son, Mike Lockwood, of Alliance, OH; her sister, Tiffine (Jason) Seizmore, of Ashtabula, OH; her brother, Joseph Papotta; and three grandchildren, Logan Maunus, Jazlyn McIntyre, Taylor Pierce, and Preston Pierce.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, March 6, in the Chapel at Greenlawn Memory Gardens, Rt. 20, North Kingsville, OH with Rev. Jan Walsh of New Leaf United Methodist Church officiating.

Vernon C. “Claude” Butts, 77, of Conneaut, died Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at the Jefferson Health Care Center, Jefferson, OH. He was born February 26, 1932 in North Springfield, Pennsylvania, the son of Lewis and Eletha (Cosner) Butts.
Mr. Butts had worked for 32 years with the Astatic Corporation, and also had worked for Richard Gleason, Conneaut Recycling Company, and Wal-Mart. He was a member of the Wesleyan Methodist Church, the Erie Silent Club, Ashtabula Deaf Club, and Senior Citizens of Ashtabula. He enjoyed Bingo, the outdoors, and was an experienced handyman in the electrical field.
Survivors include his wife, Donna (Brokaw) Butts, of Jefferson, whom he married November 29, 1958; three daughters, Jean Darcy of Tampa, FL, Mary Ingram of Ashtabula, and Deanna Gilchrist of Madison, OH; his son, Charles Butts of Erie, PA; his sister, Doris Case of Texas; 12 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and his daughter Christa Flynn.
Funeral service will be 1:00 PM, Monday, March 1, 2010 at the Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut with Ralph Emus officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery in Andover, OH.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday, from 11:00 AM until the time of the service at 1:00 PM.

Michael N. “Mouse” Anthony, also known as “Mayor of the Harbor,” 69, of Conneaut, died, Thursday, February 18, 2010 at the Hospice House in Cleveland, OH. He was born June 2, 1940 in Conneaut, the son of Carl and Dorothy (Mucci) Anthony.
Michael was a graduate of Conneaut High School, class of 1958, and entered into the United States Marine Corp for three years. He was plant superintendent for Foseco in Conneaut and retired at the age of 52.
He was raised Catholic and had been a member of the Conneaut Elks Lodge for several years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing in his younger years, bicycling, and the casino’s, especially traveling to Vegas every year and loved the beach. He also loved his entire Friday night family at Biscotti’s Restaurant.
Survivors include his fiancée JoAnn Hogle of Conneaut; three sisters, Donna (Gene) Jarvi, Judy Hubenko, and Marie (Toby) Workman, all of Conneaut; four brothers, Carl (Maryann) of Naples, Fl, Robert (Anita) of Waveland, MS, Dave (Barb) and Gordon, of Conneaut; several nieces and nephews including his Godchildren, Carla Anthony, Tanya Brewer, and Michael D. Anthony.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
A celebration of Life will be 2:30, Monday, February 22 at the Conneaut Community Center for the Arts, 1025 Buffalo St., Conneaut, OH.
Friends may call at the Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut on Saturday, February 20 from 4:00-7:00 PM. Private graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family on Monday.

T. Dayton Greenfield, 76, of Conneaut, OH, died Monday evening, February 22, at his home. He was born March 6, 1933, in North Kingsville, OH, and was the son of William C. and Catherine (Stephenson) Greenfield.
A lifelong Conneaut resident, he was a veteran of the U.S. Army and National Guard and was deployed to Korea with the137th “C” Company during the Korean War. At one time he was Chief of Police of the Village of Lakeville and also worked at the former Fortune-Byers Company. He was employed for 25 years at the Conneaut Post Office where he was Assistant Postmaster, and retired in 1998 from the Pittsburgh & Conneaut Dock Company Security Department.
Dayton was a member of New Leaf United Methodist Church, and served over 25 years as an EMT and firefighter with the East Conneaut Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed woodworking and assisted with maintenance at the Conneaut Community Center for the Arts, and especially enjoyed his yellow lab “Sasha” who was a “prison dog”.
Survivors include his wife Lois E. (Mook) Greenfield whom he married June 5, 1954; two daughters Christine (Daniel) James of Westerville, OH, and Lisa (James) Hitmar of Medina, OH; his son James (Marcella) Greenfield, of North Kingsville, OH; four grandchildren, Brian Orrenmaa, A.J. Hitmar, Emily Hitmar, and Megan Greenfield; and many nieces and nephews including a great nephew Dayton Thomas Lee.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson Jeffrey Orrenmaa; a half-brother Elwood A. Bradley; a sister Isabelle Loucks; and two brothers William C. Greenfield, Jr. and Joseph M. Greenfield.
A Memorial Gathering will be held from 2 to 4 PM, Saturday, February 27, 2010, at the Conneaut Community Center for the Arts, 1025 Buffalo St., Conneaut, OH. Graveside services will be held at a later date.

Esther “Betty” M. Justice, 93, a lifelong resident of Conneaut, died Friday, February 12, 2010, at the Ashtabula County Nursing Home, Kingsville, OH. Born December 16, 1916, in Conneaut, she was the daughter of Lynn J. and Lenora (Bancroft) Chapman.
She was a 75-year plus member of the First Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher for many years. She also volunteered at the 50-50 Barn run by the Hospital Guild, belonged to several card groups, enjoyed being with her friends each week, was an avid golfer and bowler in her earlier years, loved reading, doing crossword puzzles, and music. Most of all, she loved her family.
Survivors include a daughter, Judith (Herbert) Smolka of South Euclid, OH; a son Charles J. (Kathie) Justice II of Chardon, OH; three grandchildren, Jill (Charles) Nilsen, Joel (Lynn) Smolka, and Charles J. (Kathie) Justice III; three step-grandchildren Kimberly (Dennis) Tramte, Deborah Coughlin, and Phillip Van Tilburg; seven great-grandchildren; eight step-great grandchildren; one step great-great grandchild; and many nieces, nephews, and more distant relatives.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death in 2002 by her husband Charles J.Justice whom she wed Oct. 20, 1935; three sisters, Rose Consla, Nell Hayes, and Dorothy Anderson; six brothers, Ralph, William, Harry, Stewart, Olney, and Thomas Chapman.
A memorial service will be at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, February 20, at the Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, OH, with the Rev. Jonathan Singer, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery.

George E. Winne, 72, of Dorset, OH, died Sunday evening, February 7, 2010, at his home after a two year illness. He was born January 14, 1938, in Lorain, OH, and was the son of William E. Winne and Pauline (Litton) Winne Swank.
He was a 1956 graduate of the Albion Area High School, and served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1962. He was a long distance OTR truck driver and retired in 2000 from Manfredi Motor Transit after 27 years of accident free service. George was Ohio truck driver of the year in 1994 and also a driver of the month in 1992. After retiring, he worked as a security guard and then for Resinberger driving railroad crews until becoming disabled two years ago.
He was a member of the American Legion Cowle Post #151, the National Rifle Association, and the Monroe Gun Club. George spent his time with his grandchildren going to the movies, shooting, fishing, or just hanging out. He taught Matthew and Garrett to drive and shoot, and was at one time was a Boy Scout leader. He also enjoyed making model airplanes, and loved studying history, the scriptures, and serving Yahweh.
Survivors include his wife Mertie (Smith) Winne whom he married in 1979; three children, William (Christina) Winne of Nappanee, IN, Cecelia (Duane) Smith of Greenville, PA, and Deanne (Thurman) Lahner of Greenville, SC; 11 grandchildren, Rebecca Bailey, Stephanie Bailey, Zachary Bailey, Loren Winne, Jenny Winne, Kaleb Winne, Jacob Winne, Kristin Daniels, Matthew Smith, Garrett Smith, and Lee Patrick; five great grandchildren, Sarah, James, Serenity, James Ryan, and Jack Edward born January 7, 2010. He is also survived by his brother Nelson Gray of Alabama.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-father Harold Swank, a son Daniel Winne; a sister Lillian Sawyer; and three brothers Russell, Charles, and Leroy Swank.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, February 17, 2010, at the Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, OH, with Marvin Wilson of the Celina, Texas Congregation of Yahweh officiating. Burial with military honors by Cowle Post #151 of the American Legion will follow in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, North Kingsville, OH.
A time of fellowship will be held following the graveside service, at the Marcy Family Center, 180 Harbor St., Conneaut, OH. All are welcome.

Juliann D. Kesatie, 93, of Conneaut, Ohio, died Friday morning, January 29, at Inn-Conneaut Health Center. The former Juliann “Julia” Dagmar Parkomaki was born January 18, 1917, in Conneaut, and was the daughter of the late Jacob (Jack) and Johannah (Lepisto) Parkomaki.
On October 24, 1938, she was married to Andrew Kesatie of East Springfield, PA. She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Conneaut, and was formerly employed by the J.C. Penney Co. and the Marcy Funeral Home.
Julia was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and enjoyed volunteering at her church, baking, bowling, and reading. You could always count on having freshly baked cardamom bread or a delicious dessert when visiting her home. Or, you may have been the recipient of one of these delicacies if it was your birthday, or as thanks for a helpful deed or just as a kind neighborly gesture.
Survivors include her daughters Joy (Kenneth) Lake of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, Alice (James) Crowl of Conneaut; and son Jon of Conneaut; grandchildren Gordon (Veronica) Lake of Santa Teresa, NM, Erin (Mark) Bachand of Sault Ste. Marie, MI, Joel (Kerry) Lake of Sault Ste. Marie, MI, Kimberly (Peter) Bell of Cleveland, OH, Erica Kesatie of Conneaut, and Olivia Kesatie of Conneaut; four great-grandchildren, Celeste Lake, Ashley Lake, Summer Bachand and Jack Bachand; two sisters, Ingrid Kuivila of Columbus, OH and Aili Frew of Ashtabula, OH; brother-in-law Jacob (June) Kesatie, sisters-in-law Elsa Dross and Eloise Kesatie; and many nieces and nephews.

Clifford R. “Kip” Ingersoll, 84, of Conneaut, OH, died Sunday evening, January 24, 2010, at the Harrington Care Home in Conneaut. He was born June 22, 1925, in Woodville, OH, and was the son of Alva O. and Chella F. (McClish) Ingersoll.
He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy having served in the Pacific Theatre. He was a retired school bus driver for the Conneaut Area City Schools. At one time, he served as Fire Chief of the Springfield (PA) Volunteer Fire Department.
Mr. Ingersoll attended First Baptist Church of Kingsville, OH, and was a former member of the Ashtabula V.F.W. In his earlier years, he enjoyed snowmobiling and was a former member of the Triangle S Snowmobile Club. At one time, he enjoyed raising miniature horses at Lone Pine Acres and showing them at local fairs.
Survivors include two sons, William A. “Bill” (Dannette) Ingersoll of Conneaut, OH, and Howard I. Ingersoll of Georgetown, TX; five grandchildren, Dr. Christopher (Mary) Ingersoll of Shepherd, MI, Kelly (Charles) Anthony of Conneaut, Keith Ingersoll of Conneaut, Karen (Jason) Picard of Conneaut, and Katherine (Greg) Simmons of Ashtabula, OH; and six great grandchildren, Kayla, Tanner, and Thomas Ingersoll all of Shepherd, MI, Megan and Ryan Picard of Conneaut, and Luke Simmons of Ashtabula, OH.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife Edith (Hopkins) Ingersoll; his second wife Carolee Ingersoll; a brother Glenn Ingersoll; and a sister Dorothy Orth.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, January 28, at the Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, OH, with the Rev. David F. Hines, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Kingsville, OH, officiating. Burial will be in East Springfield Cemetery, East Springfield, PA, will full military honors accorded by Cowle Post #151 of the American Legion in Conneaut, OH.

On Thursday, January 14, 2010, Pauline Lindsay, 84, formerly of Conneaut, was called home by God. She endured years of declining health, and spent her final days in Yadkin Nursing Home in Yadkinville, NC.
Prior to moving to Conneaut, she was employed as office manager at Jeter Systems Corp. in Cleveland, OH, retiring in 1986. While in Conneaut, Mrs. Lindsay attended the United Church of Christ, was Past Worthy Matron of Rose Chapter #22 Order of Eastern Star, and had been a member of the Covered Bridge Chorus of Sweet Adelines.
She enjoyed crocheting, and many folks have enjoyed the beautiful work of her hands that she presented as gifts. She was an avid reader, and when she was able, enjoyed bowling.
She is survived by her daughter Patricia Anne Smith (Dallas) of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, her son Joseph Patrick Volovar (Terri) of Akron, OH, three grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren. A number of cousins, nieces, nephews and more distant relatives also survive in Texas, Florida, and Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband David G. Lindsay, Jr., and a son John Anthony Volovar. Pauline was the last of six children born to William Berry Jackson and Ruby Alma Hill Jackson. She is also the last to pass away.
The family thanks her many skilled doctors in Erie, PA and Winston-Salem, NC for her extended care. Also, thank you to the staff of Yadkin Nursing Home for the care give to our Mother.
Private graveside services will be held in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, North Kingsville, OH. The Marcy Funeral Home, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, OH, has charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, Pauline requested donations to the charity of one’s choice to feed those less fortunate. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Former Conneaut resident, Carol A. Helberg Toukonen, 71, died Saturday, January 16, at her home in Jefferson Township, OH. She was born April 25, 1938, in Cleveland, OH, and was the daughter of Harold and Florence (Lorenz) Gehringer.
She had been employed as a nurse’s assistant for 14 years at the Ashtabula County Nursing Home, retiring in 1990. She had been a member of Compassionate Friends and volunteered at the Brown Memorial Hospital Gift Shop. She collected bookmarks, angels, and carrousel horses. She enjoyed creative writing, bingo, and going to casinos.
Survivors include her husband John H. Toukonen whom she married September 27, 2008; her daughter Lisa A. Richter of Wickliffe, OH; two sons, Scott A. Cocanower of Gainesboro, TN, and Brian A. Cocanower of Lansing, MI; two step-daughters Debbie Tatakas of Saybrook, OH, and Sheri Jacobs of Ashtabula, OH; three step-sons Martin Toukonen of Kent, OH, Rick McAllister of Albion, PA, and Thomas McAllister of Anaheim, CA; a brother James C. McConaughy of Longview, WA; 18 grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister Susan; her adopted parents Woodrow and Grace Lorenz; a son Brad A. Cocanower; a daughter Susan Lynn Cocanower; her first husband John Helberg; her brother Roger D. Lorenz; and her companion of ten years Don McAllister.
A Memorial Service will be held at 9:00 P.M., Tuesday, January 19, at the Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, OH, with Tim Kraus of the Conneaut Church of Christ officiating. Following cremation, burial will take place in Glenwood Cemetery, Conneaut.
