Howard W. "Howie" Johnson, 89, of Ashtabula, formerly of Conneaut, passed away Thursday, February 9, 2017, at the Country Club Retirement Center in Ashtabula. He was born March 6, 1927 in Conneaut, Ohio, and was the son of Paul and Leah (Smith) Johnson. 

Howie joined the US Navy serving during WWII, and served in Japan and the South Pacific. He worked for SCM in Ashtabula as a welder retiring August 1, 1992.

He enjoyed fishing, bowling, and working outdoors. Howie was a life member of the VFW.

He is survived by his wife, Donna Betteys-Johnson, whom he committed his life to in 2007.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his first wife Rose Johnson.

Funeral service will be 11:00 AM, Tuesday February 14, 2017 at the Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, with Rev. Robert Leonard officiating. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery with military honors provided by the American Legion Cowle Post 151. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10:00 AM until the time of the service on Tuesday. 

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of the Western Reserve.
