James Thompson, Sr. Obituary

James E. Thompson, Sr., 92, of Conneaut, passed away early Tuesday morning, March 6, 2018, surrounded by family at The Villa at the Lake. He was born March 25, 1925 in Piedmont, KS, and was the son of Elmer and Minnie (Johnson) Thompson.

Mr. Thompson enlisted in the United States Navy serving during WWII. Shortly after his discharge, he married the love of his life, Barbara M. (Megyesi) Thompson on October 12, 1946. Jim worked many years inspecting cars for the Bessemer retiring in 1984, and was well known for his masonry work.

 He was a member of the Evangelical and Reformed Hungarian Church, Evergreen Masonic Lodge #222, and the Conneaut American Legion. He enjoyed gardening, crossword puzzles, was an avid Cleveland Indians fan, and spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include his daughters Suzan (Brad) Howard of Conneaut, and Stacey (Bob) Houser of North Kingsville; his sons, James E. (Connie) Thompson, Jr., and Scott (MaryAnn) Thompson, all of Conneaut; his grandchildren Heidi (Matt) Spero, Darci (Erik) Evans, Adam Thompson, Stephanie (Travis Furlow) Thompson, Tony (Jessica) Howard, Andrew (April) Howard, Tyler (Kori) Howard, Scotty Thompson, Cody (Maria) Thompson, Jessica Thompson, and Samantha (Greg) Bones; 14 great-grandchildren and two more on the way; and numerous nieces, nephews, and more distant relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Barbara in 2015; his son Terry in 2007; his brothers Gilbert, Charles, Harold, and Paul; and his sisters Marjorie Travis, Mabel Smith, and Dorothy Thompson.

Visitation will be 4:00 until 7:00 PM, Thursday, March 8, 2018, at the Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut.  Graveside Service will be 10:00 AM, Saturday, March 10, 2018, in Springfield Cemetery, East Springfield, PA.

Military honors will be provided by the American Legion Cowle Post #151.
