Joan A. Watson, 80, of Conneaut, passed away Thursday afternoon, April 6, 2017 at the Ashtabula County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born August 7, 1936 in Conneaut, and was the daughter of Charles and Irene (Rilling) Hazeltine.

Joan was a Conneaut High School graduate, class of 1954 and had worked for Crowther Trucking, Astatic, and Premix, retiring in 1988.

She was a member of the Conneaut First Baptist Church for over 50 years where she sang in the choir, was a deaconess, a youth advisor, and member of the women’s mission society. Joan enjoyed reading, needlework, baking, and watching Nascar racing and local stock car racing that her family raced. She especially enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include her daughter Janice (John) McMaster of Katy, TX; her sons Jeff (Mercy) Thompson of Orlando, FL, and David (Frances) Thompson of Hudson, NH; three step-sons James (Kim) Watson of Conneaut; William (Lisa) Watson, of Monroe Township, and Ronald (Leanne) Watson Sr., of Ladson, SC; 5 grandchildren; 9 step-grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; 10 step-great-grandchildren; 2 step-great-great grandchildren; her sister Marjorie (Don) Williams of Conneaut, nieces, nephews, and more distant relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Frank F. “Bud” Watson; her sister Sally Alexander; her brother Charles Hazeltine; and her step-great-grandson Barry Anderson.

Memorial service will be held at 12:00 Noon, Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at the Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., with Rev. Robert Guldenschuh of First Baptist Church officiating. Inurnment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, North Kingsville, Ohio.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until the time of the service at Noon.
