Norris R. Kelly, Sr.

September 22, 1931 ~ May 30, 2017 (age 85) 85 Years Old


                Norris R. Kelly, Sr. 85, of Pierpont, OH, passed away at his home Tuesday evening, May 30, 2017.  He was born September 22, 1931, in Cleveland, OH, and was the son of Ruben and Willie Mae (Garrett) Kelly.

                Mr. Kelly was a graduate of East Tech High School and attended Central State University for three years.  He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.  He was a postal clerk in the Cleveland Post Office for 19 years and, after moving to Conneaut, worked at the Pittsburgh & Conneaut Dock Company for 24 years until retiring in 1993.

                Mr. Kelly was a voracious reader and history buff.  He was interested in politics, was a civil rights champion and campaigned for President Obama.  He was a die-hard Cleveland sports fan and enjoyed traveling and attending musical concerts, especially those in which Norris, Jr. was involved.

                Survivors include his wife Joyce (Gordon) Kelly whom he married in 2014; two daughters, Cynthia Story of Kingsville, OH, and Pawnee Faye Holland of North Canton, OH; two sons, Norris R. Kelly, Jr. of Pierpont, OH, and Nathan R. Kelly of Ashtabula, OH; step-children, Robert Ballard, George Ballard, and Sandy Turner; grandchildren Michael Kelly, Montell Holland, and Marquis Holland; and many extended family.  Over the years, the Kelly’s also opened their arms to nearly 50 children as well.

                He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife Cora in 2001; three brothers, Thomas C. Kelly, Malcom L. Kelly, and Edwin Kelly; and a sister Lydia B. Kelly.

                A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM, June 17, 2017, at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, at the corner of Main and Buffalo Streets in Conneaut, OH.

                For those who wish, memorial contributions may be directed to Hospice of the Western Reserve 1166 Lake Ave., Ashtabula, OH, for its music ministry.  Envelopes will be available at the church or at the Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, OH, where arrangements have been entrusted.
