Robert N. “Joe” College, 85, of Conneaut, passed away Wednesday morning, February 8, 2017 at UH Conneaut Medical Center. He was born January 20, 1932 in Harrisburg, PA, and was the son of David and Mary (Zook) College.
After graduation, Joe enlisted in the US Air Force as a bugler, retiring in September 1970; with his amazing talent, Joe played for many years at Arlington Cemetery and was flown around the country to play military Taps. He was the first and only to retire in Colorado at the Air Force Academy.
Joe was a member of the Conneaut American Legion Cowle Post 151, and social member of the VFW in Springfield, PA, where he was the bugler for both posts. He enjoyed golfing and just loved people and socializing. He was known for his great personality and telling “Joe” jokes.
Survivors include his wife Susan “Jane” College, whom he married June 19, 1976; his daughters Stacy (Mike) Hozalski of Wellington, OH, Nancy (Gene) College-Briles of Chesapeake Beach, MD, and Jill (Dennis) Baker of Tampa, FL; his sons Thomas “Butch” College of Lanham, MD, and Paul “Champ” (Fran) College, both of Hyattsville, MD, his brother Richard (Pauline) College of Cumberland, MD; numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son Joseph Allen College in 2010; and brothers Cloyd and Skippy College.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, February 17, 2017, at the Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, with Tim Kraus of the Church of Christ officiating. Full Military Honors will be provided by the American Legion Cowle Post #151. Inurnment will be held in Greenlawn Memory Gardens at a later date.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 12:00 Noon until the time of the service at 2:00 PM.
