Frank W. Wuorinen, Jr.

Frank W. Wuorinen, Jr., 80, of Conneaut, OH, died Thursday, July 24, 2008 at UH Conneaut Medical Center. He was born April 26, 1928, in Conneaut, and was the son of Frank W. and Gladys M. (Coyle) Wuorinen, Sr.

Through the years, Mr. Wuorinen was a jockey and had raced horses professionally. He also worked as a traveling carnival game operator, and had served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Mr. Wuorinen was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, the Conneaut Elks Club, and the Conneaut Moose Club, and was an Ohio State University sports fan.

Several nieces and nephews survive including Bonnie Dubay of Northfield, OH, Karen Russo of Andover, OH, Paul Clark of Conneaut, OH, William Wuorinen of Ashtabula, OH, Duane Wuorinen of York, PA, John Wuorinen of Akron, OH, Pat Jacky of Daytona, FL, Robert Wuorinen of Superior, WI, and Ricky Wuorinen of Duluth, MN.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Jean; his brother Robert L. Wuorinen, Sr., and his sister Mary Clark.

Graveside services, with military honors conducted by Cowle Post #151 of the American Legion, will be at 2:00 P.M., Monday, July 28, in East Conneaut Cemetery, with Bonnie Dubay, commissioned minister of Faith Fellowship Church in Northfield, OH, officiating.

Visitation will be from 1 to 3 PM, Sunday, at the Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, OH.

Edna M. Gustafson

Edna M. Gustafson, 82, of Conneaut, OH, died Monday morning, July 14, 2008, at her daughter’s home. She had been in failing health for the past year. Mrs. Gustafson was born May 7, 1926, in Corry, PA, and was the daughter of Basil and Dorothy (Childs) McGuire.

A Conneaut resident for the past 53 years, she was primarily a homemaker, but had been employed at the former Astatic Corporation and at W.T. Grant Co. She was a member of the North Kingsville Presbyterian Church and was a 50-year member of Rose Chapter #22 Order of Eastern Star. She was a beautiful seamstress and volunteered sewing with the Pink Ladies at Brown Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Gustafson enjoyed traveling and had been to most of the Canadian provinces and all of the States except Hawaii.

Survivors include her daughter Dianna (Jim) Greer of Conneaut, OH; two sons, Harry “Gus” (Louise) Gustafson, and Robert (Carmella) Gustafson all of Conneaut; her brother Carl (Sally) Barringer of Pleasantville, PA; eight grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Allen Gustafson, Jr. on April 27, 2007, her daughter Maryetta Gustafson; a grandson Jason Woodworth; and a brother Neil McGuire.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, July 17, at the Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, OH, with the Rev. Bonnie Habbersett, pastor of Kingsville Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, North Kingsville, OH.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6 to 8 PM. Rose Chapter of Eastern Star will conduct services at 7:45 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Western Reserve. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Donald G. "Buzz" Bruce

Donald G. “Buzz” Bruce, 71, of Conneaut, Ohio, died unexpectedly Monday, July 7, 2008, at UH Conneaut Medical Center, of a probable coronary. He was born February 23, 1937, in Conneaut, and was the son of George H. and Ruthe E. (McKenzie) Bruce.

Mr. Bruce had been employed for 38 years at Molded Fiberglas in various capacities and was Vice President of Production when he retired. Following his retirement, he continued to serve in a consulting capacity as Special Projects Coordinator. He was also co-owner at one time with George Laituri of the former Lewis Auto Body in East Conneaut.

Buzz’s high school yearbook read “First Love—Cars”. That held true throughout his life as he loved everything about cars, from tinkering and rebuilding, to auto racing—especially Indy and NASCAR, to attending car shows and “cruise’ins”.

His greatest passion was ‘the love of his life,’ his wife of 50 years, Joan, and his children and their families.

Survivors include his wife Joan C. (Sundberg) Bruce whom he married August 10, 1957; a daughter Robin (Paul) Bonfiglio of Toledo, OH; two sons, Robert T. (Connie) Bruce of Powell, OH, and Donald S. (Christine) Bruce of Findlay, OH; nine grandchildren, Jessica Bruce, Katie Bonfiglio, Frank Bonfiglio, Carly Bonfiglio, Jack Bonfiglio, Spencer Bruce, Levi Bruce, Madison Bruce, and Karina Bruce; his sister-in-law Sara Bruce of Lewisville, NC; and two nieces Mindy Engstrom and Beth Stiles.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother Richard H. Bruce.

Private graveside services will be held Friday, July 11, in Glenwood Cemetery, with the Rev. Glen Warner, pastor emeritus of Second Congregational Church of Ashtabula, officiating.

Robert P. Carmody

Robert P. Carmody, 70, of Conneaut, Ohio, and formerly of Carlsville, Wisconsin, died Wednesday, July 2, 2008, at Heather Hill Rehabilitation Center in Chardon, Ohio. He was born October 18, 1937, in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, and was the son of Paul and Anna (McCarty) Carmody.

A Conneaut resident for the past 37 years, Mr. Carmody had been employed as a marine engineer with U.S. Steel Corporation for 15 years, retiring in 1982. He was a member of the Conneaut Fish and Game Club, and the Conneaut Moose Club.

Survivors include his wife Peggy A. (Myers) Carmody of Conneaut, whom he married November 13, 1971; a daughter Debra Vander Zanden of Suffix, WI; two sons, Jason Carmody of Conneaut, OH, and Daniel Carmody of Rancho Santa Margarita, CA; four grandchildren; two great grandchildren; three sisters, Joan Peterson of Egg Harbor, WI, Kathleen Kaye, and Eunice Londo both of Sturgeon Bay, WI, and Anne Margaret Carmody of Milwaukee, WI; and two brothers, Frank Carmody of Green Bay, WI, and Michael Carmody of Sturgeon Bay, WI.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister Barbara in childhood; and a brother William Carmody.

At Mr. Carmody’s request, there will be no visitation or services held. Memorial contributions may be made to the Conneaut Rescue Squad, 392 Middle Rd., Conneaut, OH 44030.
