Welcome to the memorial page for

James C. Dennison

July 27, 1927 ~ October 25, 2017 (age 90) 90 Years Old

James C. Dennison of Conneaut, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, October 25th surrounded by his loving family. He was 90.

Born July 27th, 1927 to Clair and Amelia (Sweeney) Dennison in Meadville, PA, Jim was a lifelong resident of Conneaut. He was a graduate of Conneaut High School and earned his Associate Degree from The Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science.

Throughout the years, he was employed by the Astatic Corporation and General Electric. Additionally, he was a principle at Northeastern Plastics. Jim was a professional scuba diver and worked on projects for The Great Lakes Towing Company. He was the sole diver in a 1971 ice dive that helped insure the ongoing water supply for the city of Conneaut after an intake valve became clogged with ice. A long-distance swimmer, his swimming workouts were measured in miles as opposed to yards. He was also privileged to have been a volunteer in the recovery process of perished souls on Lake Erie.

An adventuresome spirit, Jim spent much of his early years traveling throughout Europe and the United States. An avid boat enthusiast, he raced competitively on Lake Chautauqua. He was also a pilot and routinely flew his plane on low level passes over the shores of Lake Erie saluting his father.

Never one to rely on tradition, he was in many ways a self-taught man as evidenced in 1966 when he and his wife Margaret undertook the task of building their dream home on the banks of Lake Erie at Township Park. The build was accomplished with the help of skilled friends and local youths who wanted to learn a trade.

Nothing gave him more pleasure than seeing his children and grandchildren enjoy the beaches and peaceful waters of Lake Erie, much as he did.  Jim took great pride in the city of Conneaut, and was a huge promoter of his hometown.

Jim was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 627, the Lake Erie Boat Club, and he served on the City of Conneaut Civil Service Commission, Planning Commission, and the Zoning Board of Appeals

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Fr. Christopher Lynch, OFM lovingly referred to as “Den”.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Margaret, their children James (Pam) of Naperville, IL, Thomas (Doris) of Attleboro, MA, Sarah Dennison Luger of Conneaut, and Margaret Dennison Montanaro of Conneaut. He is also survived by his loving grandchildren, Kristen (Peter) Larson and James Dennison; Melanie Brown and Katie Weeman; Alec, Aidan, and Christian Luger; John and James Montanaro; as well as great grandchildren Olivia and A.J. Brown, Lola, Zoe, and Hazel Weeman. Additionally, he is survived by his cousin Bertha Harvey Pratt of Conneaut.
