James A. “Jim” McBride, 88, of Conneaut, passed away Monday evening, January 21, 2019 at Carington Park in Ashtabula. He was born June 19, 1930 in Conneaut, and was the son of Daniel M. and Helen I. (Horton) McBride.
Mr. McBride served our country and was honorably discharged from the United States Army, he was one of the youngest veterans to enlist at 16 years of age, just four days prior to the end of WWII. Jim worked for the Norfolk Western/Nickel Plate Railroad, retiring at the age of 52. He was a member of the American Legion Cowle Post #151 and the National Rifle Association.
Jim enjoyed scuba diving, the outdoors, camping, hunting, and fishing in Tionesta and Tidioute, Pennsylvania. He also enjoyed traveling, especially trips to Mexico and the Caribbean. Years ago, he would fly planes at the airport in Kingsville. He was a volunteer for the Amboy Volunteer Fire Department and Dive Team.
Jim was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He loved to spend time with his grandchildren and go on family vacations with them.
Survivors include his sons Robert (Annette) McBride and Jeff McBride, of Conneaut; his grandchildren Matthew, Mitchell, and Macey McBride of Conneaut; and his brother Daniel McBride of Silver City, New Mexico.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Carlene (Knauff) McBride of 66 years, who passed away May 4, 2018; his granddaughter Marla McBride; and his brothers Richard and Donald McBride
Funeral service will be 1:00 PM, Saturday, January 26, 2019 at the Marcy Funeral Home, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, with Pastor Jan Walsh of New Leaf United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow in East Conneaut Cemetery with military honors provided by Cowle Post #151.
Friends may call on Saturday from 11:00 AM until the time of the service at the funeral home.
