After his father-in-law purchased a cottage on Lake Erie in West Springfield, PA., John completely renovated the cottage with electricity and water. It soon became a haven for summer vacations. He continued to hone his woodworking skills and became a master wood cabinet maker, building furniture that rivaled the best. His most prized projects were a full size hammer dulcimer, a grandfather clock, and an Early American Pillar and Scroll shelf clock with wooden gears. He was preceded in death by his life companion of 61 years, Carol Louise (Connors) Rose.
