Melvin E. Helfinstine, 85, of Conneaut, passed away Saturday August 26, 2017 at Lake Pointe Nursing Home & Rehab.  He was born December 24, 1931 in Dayton, Ohio, the son of Leroy & Ethel (Barnhart) Helfinstine.  Melvin retired from Emco Wheaton as a Supervisor of the machine shop.  He enjoyed woodworking, camping and motorcycling.  Survivors include his children, Debra (Vincent) Gildone, Steve (Karen) Helfinstine both of Conneaut, and Michael Helfinstine of Streetsboro; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and brother, Ralph (Peggy) Helfinstine of Hillsboro.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Georgann, two sons, James and a stillborn child, sister, Carma Schieman and daughter in law, Vincina “Squeak” Helfinstine. At Melvin’s request, no calling hours or service will be held.  Private family graveside service was held Friday at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens in New Carlisle, Ohio.  Arrangements entrusted to Marcy Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut.  Please sign the guestbook and light a candle in memory Melvin at www.marcyfuneralhome.com.
