Richard I. “Dick” Tessmer, Jr., 84 of Conneaut passed away Saturday June 8, 2019 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born July 1, 1934 in Gowanda, NY. He was the son of Richard & Edith (Parke) Tessmer, Sr.
Dick was a 1953 graduate of Conneaut High School and also served in the US Navy. He worked for ESAB as a machine operator retiring in 1989.
He was a member of the Moose Lodge 472 where he was Past Governor for two terms each. He belonged to the American Legion Cowle Post 151 for many years serving as Past Commander for two terms.
Dick enjoyed refinishing furniture, he played slow pitch softball for several teams, an avid fan of the Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Indians. Dick was known for his willingness to make his spaghetti sauce and served many fund raisers for anyone who needed it. He was known and respected for his cooking, hard work and honesty. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include his wife of twenty three years Sandy; sisters, Diane (Rich) Saylor of Conneaut and Barb (Phil) Miller of Virginia; children, James Tessmer of Conneaut, Pam (Ron) Butts of Conneaut, Rich Tessmer of Conneaut, Michele (Brian) Powell of Wilmington, NC, Annette Nelson of Conneaut; step children, Renae Tisdale of Clarksville, AK, Beth (Tom) Stevens of Conneaut, Laura Gutierres of Conneaut, Kathy (Michael) Mills of Monroe Twp. And Timothy (Candy) Johnston of Conneaut. 15 grandchildren, 10 step grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren and 14 step great grandchildren; son in law, Chuck Riley; sister in law, Fran Tessmer; Aunt, Jean Lemmo and several nieces and nephews. Dick’s beloved Boston’s Tessie and Max.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Marguerite “Diann” Tessmer, daughter, Debbie Riley; brother, Bob Tessmer; stepchildren, Keith Johnston and Jennifer Brown
Funeral service will be 1:30 PM Friday June 14, 2019 at the Marcy Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St. The family will receive friends from 11:30 AM until time of service on Friday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, North Kingsville, with military honor rendered by American Legion Cowle Post #151.
In Lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Bella Care Hospice or to the American Legion Cowle Post 151. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
