Walter E. Reinke, Sr., 79, of Conneaut, passed away Monday July 23, 2018 at St. Vincent Hospital in Erie, PA. He was born March 25, 1939 in Conneaut, and was the son of Walter J. and Rhea (Rockwell) Reinke. After high school graduation, Walter enlisted in the United States Air Force, and served locally with the Ohio National Guard “C” Co. 137th Armor Div. After his service to his country, he worked 23 years for Rockwell Brake in Ashtabula, OH, and retired from the City of Conneaut Street Department in 2002. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion Cowle Post 151, Disabled American Veterans, and Arbor Day Foundation. He enjoyed watching TV, especially NASCAR and the Tour De France. Other activities he enjoyed were scratching lotto tickets, bird watching, and spending time with his grandchildren and family. Survivors include his wife Irene (Shoemaker) Reinke; his son Bud (Sue) Reinke of Conneaut; his daughters Amy (Brian Sumer) Reinke-Nettles of Montville, OH, and Nina (Chad) Holden of Ashtabula; his grandchildren Erin Pearson, Cody Reinke, Skylar Nettles, Addison Nettles, and Max Sumer; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son Jeffrey Reinke; his granddaughter Ashley Reinke; and his brother Ronald Reinke. Funeral service will be 11:00 A.M., Thursday, July 26, 2018 at the Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, with Tim Kraus officiating. Full military honors will follow by the American Legion Cowle Post 151. Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 6-8 P.M., and also on Thursday, from 10:00 until the time of the service. Contributions may be made to the Animal Protective League.
