Alan Joseph Whitney - Age 81, died peacefully on January 7th, 2020 in Kingwood, TX after a long battle with Multiple Sclerosis.
Alan was born on November 4th, 1938 in Fairview, Pennsylvania to Joseph and Louse Whitney.
Upon graduation from Conneaut high school in 1956 he enlisted in the US Navy and served on the USS Valley Forge aircraft carrier. After receiving an honorable discharge, he went on to work for the Army-Navy Times, the National Association of Government Employees, and then served as Director of Corporate Communications for the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. Mr. Whitney was the FDIC’s public voice during the bank crises of the seventies and eighties when many banks failed due to economic conditions, including many small farm banks in the Midwest.
He enjoyed hanging out with his buddies, some high-ranking government officials, at Dankers pub on E Street in the District. Later, after leaving DC, his favorite pastimes turned to watching the Cleveland Cavaliers basketball team, reading and having lunch at Pappas Seafood with his grandkids.
Alan is survived by his son, Joseph Llewellyn Whitney (Fairfax, VA) and daughter, Elise Anne Bishop (Kingwood, TX), grandson Cooper Bishop and granddaughter Addie Bishop.
Graveside service will be held for Alan at City Cemetery, Liberty St., Conneaut, July 11, 2020 at 11:00AM. Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, is assisting the family with local arrangements.
