Alfred Anderson Obituary

Alfred L. Anderson, 94, of Conneaut and formerly of San Diego, CA, passed away Wednesday, February 8, 2023. He was born July 20, 1928 in Monroe Township, the son of Jay Anderson and Virginia (Bennett) Anderson-Knief.

Alfred graduated from Conneaut High School and worked for GE for 25 years in the maintenance department before moving to San Diego. Once Alfred moved to California, he worked for San Diego Gas and Electric as a machinist until his retirement.

He was a member of the Masonic Relief Lodge #284 in Pierpont for over 60 years. Years ago, Alfred had been a member of the Federated Church in East Springfield, PA, and while in San Diego, he had been a member of Green Valley Church. He was also a member of the USS Midway Museum.

One of Alfred’s greatest past times was being member of the San Diego Zoo. He would go there most days and walk the zoo, even the animals knew who he was, some of them would greet him at their exhibits when he would pass by.

He enjoyed traveling when his kids were young and camping in various areas,  and bicycling when he lived in California, he had even taken a trip to England to cycle. He also enjoyed mowing his lawn, and woodworking, he built a home and had helped with building State Line Log Cabin with his dad as a teenager. His cat Harry was so important to him.

Survivors include his son Gerald (Susan) Anderson; his daughter Mary Lou (Rich) Lawrence, all of Conneaut; his step-sister Janet (Roger) Eaton of North Springfield, PA; grandchildren Jodie Wnoroski, Eric (Stephanie) Anderson, Michelle (David) Lewis, all of Conneaut, Angela (Steve) O’Dell of Greenville, SC, Bethany (Tim) Allen of Lancaster, PA, Sadie Anderson of Cleveland, and James (Cathe) Anderson of Zanesville; fifteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He is also survived by his numerous nieces and nephews; and very close friends Donna Page of San Diego and Claire Brenner of Seattle.

He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father Vernon Knief; daughter Patricia Anderson; son David Anderson; sisters Dorothy Locher and Alice Anderson.

Funeral service will be 11:30 AM, Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at the Marcy Funeral Home, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, with Pastor Larry Carr, Alfred’s nephew officiating. Burial will follow in Kelloggsville Cemetery, Monroe Township, OH.

Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until the time of the service at 11:30 AM on Wednesday at the funeral home.
