Alfred "Al" Carl Gee

Alfred Carl Gee (Al), 89, of Conneaut passed away peacefully surrounded by family on February 14, 2023, in Pickerington, OH.  He was born on April 5, 1933, to Bernard and Lulu (Hall) Gee.

Al was a proud 1951 Rowe High School graduate where he was an accomplished athlete in baseball, basketball and track.  He enjoyed all sports and played basketball and baseball in the back yard with his children, coached youth baseball teams, golfed into his 80s and rooted for Cleveland professional sports teams.

He was a Korean War veteran having served in active duty in South Korea as a sergeant in the army.  Upon returning home, Al worked on the surveying crew for Nickel Plate and Norfolk and Western Railroads until 1967 and retired from the General Electric Base Plant in Conneaut after 25 years.

Al was a faithful member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Conneaut, where he was a member of the church choir for many years, assisted with operation Christmas Child, participated in the Eucharist Ministry by bringing communion to shut ins of the congregation and volunteered at the Ashtabula County Home.  Al was an “honorary Finn” and enjoyed the Finnish American Heritage Association and two trips to Finland with his Finnish wife, Ellen (Orrenmaa) Gee.

Al is survived by his children Brenda (John) Griesser of Easton, PA, Bradley (Becky) Gee of Pickerington, OH, Julie Gee (Michael Adams) of Athens, OH and Kevin Gee of Columbus, OH;  grandchildren, Amanda (Josh) Wilkins of Lancaster, PA, Aaron Griesser of South Bend, IN, Kristen Kettlehake of Columbus, OH, Seth (Kelsey) Gee of Upper Arlington, OH, Ashley Gee of Columbus, OH and Melissa Gee of Columbus, OH; great grandchildren Quinn Kettlehake, Lincoln Gee and Adalynn Church; siblings William Gee of Birmingham, AL, George Gee of Boiling Springs, SC and Pearle Brand of Conneaut, OH; and many nieces nephews and more distant relatives.

Preceding him in death were his beloved wife of 68 years Ellen Gee, and siblings Jerald Gee, Barbara Barnes, David Gee and Arlene Carpenter.

Funeral service will be Saturday, February 18, 2023 at 11 AM at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 876 Grove St., Conneaut, OH with Al’s son, Pastor Bradley Gee of Epiphany Lutheran Church, Pickerington, OH, officiating.

Friends may call on Friday, February 17, 2023 from 6-8 PM at the Marcy Funeral Home, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, OH, and on Saturday from 10 AM until the time of the service at the church.

Memorial contributions can be made in Al’s memory to the Abiding Memorial Fund for Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.  Envelopes will be available at the funeral home as well as the church.
