Betty L. Morrison, 84, of Monroe, passed away Thursday, October 10, 2024 at the Ashtabula
County Nursing Home. She was born December 1, 1939 in Ashtabula, the daughter of John and
Louise (Barry) Ferguson.
Betty graduated from Ashtabula High School and worked for Happy Hearts as a bus aide. Betty
was a member of Monroe United Methodist Church and State Line Church. She volunteered at
the Ashtabula County Nursing Home. She was a member of the D.A.R. She served on the
Bicentennial Committee. She was the director of the Ashtabula Covered Bridge Festival for
several years and volunteered at the festival for many years after. She worked the voting polls
at the Monroe Township Fire Hall. She enjoyed traveling, cooking and canning, baking, taking
care of her home, and being with her friends and family. One of her greatest joys was making
sauerkraut with her family. Everyone was involved in the experience from oldest to youngest
everyone had a job. Though she loved cooking and baking her heart was beyond full when she
got to do these things with her family, even if it was the yearly phone call for the pumpkin pie
recipe. Or the annual family pig roast where she was in charge of the “secret bbq sauce.” She
loved going camping, and playing bingo with her grandkids. She loved attending her grandkids
and great grandkids sporting activities. She always said “The lawn chair is always in the car,
ready to head to any event for the grandkids or great grandkids.”
Survivors include her two sons Rusty (Alicia) Morrison of Monroe and John Morrison of Monroe;
four grandchildren Tanya (Cory) Kibler of Lordstown, John G. (Megan) Morrison of
Williamsfield, Cherry (Robert) Chambers of North Kingsville, and Michelle (Anthony)
Krasauckas of Rock Creek; eight great grandchildren Cody, Abba, Sydney, John A., Marisa,
Gannon, Stanley, and Aubrey; her sister Cheryl Lutes of Ashtabula; her brother Don
(Rosemary) Ferguson of Leesburg, FL; her brother-in-law Paul Alanko of Gulf Shores, AL; and
her favorite pup and companion, her dog Sophia.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband John W. Morrison; and her brother and
sister-in-law Charlie and Judy Ferguson; sister May Alanko; brother-in-law Robert Lutes; and
nephew Jerry Alanko.
