Betty Shean Obituary

Betty Shean, 91, passed peacefully on April 3, 2024 at the Ashtabula County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.  Betty was the daughter of Samuel and Ethel (Booth) Myers, born February 15, 1933 in Canandaigua, NY.

As a young girl, her family moved to Pittsburgh, PA. Betty met David E. Shean while she worked at a diner across the street from his gas station. They were married on December 17, 1949 in Pittsburgh.  In 1951, they moved to Monroe Township where she resided until her death. They had the privilege to travel freely all over the world including China, Europe, cruise through Alaska, all 50 states, a month every year while their children were young.

She is survived by her children Carol Eaton, David Shean Jr., and Brenda Sanford (Ed Remmel), grandchildren, Michele Thompson, Krista Shean, Deanna (Kyle) Sawchuk, Patricia (Antonio) Campea, J.J. (Dawn) Eaton, Julie Tenney, Jackie (Adam) Lytle, Elizabeth (Bryan) Scalise, and Patrick Sanford Jr., great-grandchildren Davey Thompson, Danny Thompson, Mikayla Thompson, Kennedy Shean, Lola Atkinson, Maximus Atkinson, Bryce Sawchuk, Blake Sawchuk, Josephine Campea, Matteo Campea, Giovanni Campea, Claire Eaton, Bradley Eaton, Alice Eaton, Andrew Eaton, Reese Tenney, Jonah Tenney, Carson Lytle, Caroline Lytle and Amelia Scalise, sister-in-law Roma Myers, cousin Raymond “Bud” Fritz, and a large number of nieces and nephews.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents, husband David, brother Albert Booth and his wife Mary, brother George Myers sister Lois Murtha and her husband Louis son-in-law John Eaton and great-grandchildren Thomas DeMarco and Stella Scalise.

Betty loved to host family and friends at her home.  You could always count on a good meal, usually roast beef, corn, a glass of iced tea and yummy desserts.  Betty made the most delicious pies - lemon meringue, apple, rhubarb, pumpkin were some of the favorites and of course homemade strawberry jelly, and tapioca with strawberries.  She was a talented seamstress making numerous flower girl, bridesmaid dresses for family members, bibs and pillows, and could mend anything. She was a second mother to many of her nieces and nephews. Once grandchildren arrived, they were her pride and joy, and would love attending all their activities and caring for them.

Over the years, Betty participated in Women's Society, the Rebekahs, Mother's Club, Grange and was a member of the Monroe United Methodist Church. She was an election poll worker for over 35 years in Monroe.

Betty will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
