Carol J. (Howell) Mitchell

Carol J. Mitchell, of North Kingsville, went to be with her Lord April 7, 2023a at the Cleveland Clinic, with her husband, Dennis, at her side and her family close by.  Carol was born in Conneaut, Ohio on April 13. 1959, the daughter of Franklin and Kathleen Howell.  A Lifelong area resident, Carol graduated from Edgewood High School and the Ashtabula County Vocational School, and worked in healthcare until 1999, when she was diagnosed with idiopathic pulmonary disease.

Carol married the love of her life, Dennis Mitchell, in 1979.  They had been married for forty-three years, and were blessed with two sons, Dennis, Jr., and Andrew.  She attended the Federated Church in East Springfield, PA where she helped with food pantry distribution and the kitchen ministry.  She and Dennis volunteered at the Lighthouse Harvest Foundation in Ashtabula for several years.

Carol loved gardening, feeding the birds, spending time at the beach, and hosting many backyard pool parties and picnics with family and friends.  She enjoyed shopping with her daughter-in-law and spending time with her sister.  Whether it was making baked goods to share with others, or just playing cards with friends, Carol loved connecting with people.  More than anything, she cherished her time spent with her grandchildren.  Whether it was camping in the backyard, kayaking, or just baking cookies together, she loved being a grandma.

Carol was passionate about meeting the needs of others.  She was a servant at heart, and was quick to respond to requests for help, whether it was for elderly clients for whom she provided health care, or a friend who just needed to talk.

Carol touched the lives of everyone she met.  Her perseverance and positive attitude in dealing with her lung disease was inspiring to so many, including doctors and nurses at the Cleveland Clinic.  She will be sadly missed by many.

Carol is survived by her husband Dennis Sr., her sons, Dennis, Jr. (Erin), Andrew (April); grandchildren, Dennis III, Ryan, Aaron, and Courtney.  Survivors also include her siblings, Alan (Sandy) Harrison, Dale Harrison, Dale Harrison, Frank (Marsha) Howell, Dave (Renee) Howell, Mary (Shane) Hunter, sisters in law, Deanna Howell, Elaine Mitchell, Diane (Lyle) Hiscox, brothers in law, Ed Mitchell, and many adoring nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Ray Howell.

A Celebration of life will be held Saturday June 3, 2023 at 3:00 PM at the Sheffield Fire Hall, 3636 Sheffield Monroe Rd., Sheffield Twp. 

Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
