Mary Caroline Palo, 87, of Boynton Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully on December 20th, 2023 after a year-long illness.
A lifetime resident of Conneaut, Ohio, Caroline was born on February 18th, 1936, to Ernest L. and Mary Virginia Weppler, the first of four children. She attended Conneaut High School and graduated from Fairfax Hall in Waynesboro, Virginia in 1954. She graduated from Grove City College in Pennsylvania in 1956. Returning to Conneaut after school, she met the love of her life John C. Palo and married on July 12, 1958. They started their family and raised three boys, Scott, Jeffery, and Randy in Conneaut.
When not busy raising her family Caroline contributed to the community she loved. She was an enthusiastic supporter of Brown Memorial Hospital, volunteering at the 50/50 Barn (the hospital's fundraising thrift store), holding several positions on the Hospital Auxiliary including President, and proudly serving on the Hospital Board of Trustees. A devout member of the St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, she taught Sunday school, served on the vestry, and was church treasurer, and even filled in on the piano as needed. She had a robust group of friends from the community and neighborhood that enjoyed many activities together including pool parties, dinner parties, volunteering, travel, and most of all her Bridge club.
The family-owned cottage at the Chautauqua Institute in Western New York held a significant place in Caroline's heart. Having belonged to her family for five generations, it was the site of many cherished childhood memories and delightful summers spent with her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her Mother and Father, her husband of 62 years John C. Palo, and her brothers John and Thomas Weppler.
She is survived by her sister Sally (Louis) Diplacido of Conneaut, her children Scott Palo of Boynton Beach, Florida, Jeffery Palo of Los Angeles, CA, and Randy (Laura) Palo of Lake Worth, Florida. Also, her grandchildren, Olivia Palo of Richmond, Virginia, Caroline Palo of Lake Worth, Florida, Ian Palo of Lake Worth Florida, Carling (Jose) Bello and her great-grandchildren, Corina and Lucas Bello all of Boca Raton, Florida, plus many loved nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service will be held 10:00 AM, Saturday, January 13, 2024 at the Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, with visitation being held from 9:00 AM until the time of the service at 10:00. A brief graveside service will follow in Glenwood Cemetery.
