Claude Loomis Obituary

Claude M. Loomis, 93, passed away on Thursday, November 30, 2023.  He was born August 31, 1930 in Conneaut, the son of Kenneth and Louise (Woodworth) Loomis.

Claude graduated from Rowe High School in 1948.  He married the love of his life, Jean Downing, on September 7, 1950.  They raised three children and shared 54 wonderful years together.

Claude was a self-employed home improvement contractor until his retirement in 1992.  Claude loved to travel.  He went to Hawaii several times and traveled to Canada, Puerto Rico, Acapulco, and Jamaica.

Besides his work, Claude’s hobbies were collecting antiques and spending time on Lake Erie, fishing, boating, swimming, and the beach.  After retirement, Claude and Jean traveled by motor home and enjoyed the winters in Florida until Jean’s health failed and she passed away in 2004.

Claude met Marian Gulla who became his loving companion and together they enjoyed his love for travel and the lake.

Claude was a member of the Conneaut Elks Club since 1964. He was also a past member of the American Legion, the Moose Club, and the Eagles Club.  He was a past member of the Conneaut Boat Club. He was one of the organizing members of the Downtown Coaches Club.  Claude was a member of the East Conneaut Methodist Church.

Claude’s children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren have many wonderful memories of time spent with him.  Claude was always willing to lend a hand and taught by example.

Claude spent the last three years of his life at the Ashtabula County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center where he made many friends with residents and staff. Depending on his mood, Claude would either ask the staff to go on a date with him or threaten to fire them as he believed he owned the facility.  Claude enjoyed socializing and the many activities, especially Bingo.

Claude is survived by his three children, Amy (Bob) McClintock, Butch (Nancy) Loomis and Sue Loomis, his seven grandchildren, Bob (Melissa) McClintock, Jodie (Matt) Pape, SallyAnn Campbell (Mike Keller), Jeff (Val) McClintock, Natalie (Craig) Huya, Claudia (Nick) Fill, and Erika (Dave) Granchi, 17 great-grandchildren, his sister-in-law, Arlene Loomis, and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
