David Hatfield, Sr. Obituary

David M. Hatfield, Sr., 82, of Conneaut, passed away Monday morning, February 2, 2026, at the Ashtabula County Nursing Home, Kingsville, OH. He was born September 27, 1943, in Lynchburg, Tennessee, the son of Clennie Hatfield, Sr. and Zelma (Rainey) Hatfield Woodard.

David proudly served his country as a Specialist 5 in the United States Army, stationed in Germany during the Vietnam Era from 1965 to 1968.

Originally from Tennessee, he later moved to Ohio, where he worked for Allied Resinous and RMI Sodium Plant as a laborer. He was a devoted member of the Conneaut Church of God and lived his faith daily. Each night, he would faithfully pray before bed for his children and grandchildren.

David found joy in life’s simple pleasures, including watching Westerns, doing puzzles and crosswords, fishing, and spending time with his family, who meant the world to him.

Survivors include his daughters Cindy Dickson of Ashtabula and Mary Hatfield of Conneaut; sons Steven Hatfield, and David “DJ” Hatfield, Jr., both of Conneaut; grandchildren Matthew (Carolyn) Dickson, Bailey Dickson (Lane Eubank), Kristiauna Maldonado, Tyler Maldonado, Anthony Hatfield, Andrew Hatfield, and Mercedez (Jaime) Balmaceda; five great-grandchildren with one great-grandson on the way; sister Fay Lingo of Elkhart, IN; and brothers Coy (Donna) Hatfield of Estill Springs, TN and Allen Hatfield of unknown residence. Also surviving are his five step-children and the mother of his children Terri Riggs of Conneaut and her family, who always considered him their brother and uncle.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers and four sisters.

Celebration of life gathering will be 5:00-7:00 PM, Friday, February 6, 2026 at the Conneaut Church of God, 5327 Center Rd., Conneaut, OH, 44030.
