Donald R. Dye

Former Conneaut resident Donald R. Dye, 85, widower and loving father of two, passed away Sunday, June 19, 2022. He was born December 5, 1936 in Akron, the son Lillian and Charles V. Dye.

Don graduated from Conneaut High School in 1954 and enlisted in the United States Army serving from 1955-1957. After his discharge, Don attended Kent State University.

On February 12, 1966, he married Jo Ann (Fitzwater) Dye. Don and Jo Ann lived in Sun City, AZ, and were married for 54 years. They raised two children Shawn and Stacy, both who currently reside in Colorado. Before moving to Arizona, Don worked for the former Astatic Corporation in Conneaut and General Motors in Lordstown. Don spent many years in various executive positions with Owatonna Tool Company and Sealed Power before his retirement. He enjoyed helping his community and spending time over the years volunteering with stroke victims.

Don had a passion for people, politics, and anything with a motor, including cars, boats, airplanes, and motorcycles. He was always known for cracking a joke and making people smile. He enjoyed spending time with his eight-year-old granddaughter, Shawn’s daughter, Avery Ann Dye, and his furry grandkids, as he loved dogs.

He was a selfless person who always put his family first. Over the years, he faced tremendous health adversity which he always matched with drive to keep going. His warm smile, caring nature, and sense of humor will be missed by anyone who knew and loved him. Don was “one of the good guys.”

Survivors include his son Shawn (Kim and Avery) of Breckenridge, CO; his daughter Stacy of Denver, CO; his sister Beverly (Dye) Spees of Conneaut; and more distant relatives.

He was preceded in death by his father Charles; his mother Lillian; his wife Jo Ann; and his stepfather Bernie Higgins.
