Donald W. Meinke, 88, of Conneaut passed away December 11, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born June 4, 1930 in Conneaut the son of Ralph and Olga (Saari) Meinke.
Don worked for Nickel Plate Railroad prior to serving in the US Army during the Korean War receiving three bronze stars and Korean Service Medal. After being honorably discharged he went back to work for the railroad. Don went to work at Rockwell International in 1968, later retiring in 1985.
He belonged to Evergreen Masonic Lodge # 222 where he was Past Worshipful Master and was a former member of the Lakeview Methodist Church, he loved golfing and had holes in one at Windy Hill and Conneaut Shores. He also enjoyed going to the casino and spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. He was a great auto body painter and enjoyed working on cars. Don could be found every afternoon and evening at McDonalds having coffee with close friends.
Survivors include his children, Terry Jones of Jefferson, Beth Rose of Conneaut, Keith Meinke of Conneaut and Tom Meinke of Conneaut; grandchildren, Mark, Colton, Benjamin Jones, Zachary (Sarah) Denzler, Gibby (Jon Ball) Meinke, Ashley and Wayne Meinke; great-grandchildren, Harlow, Alayna, Gavin and Nathan.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years Nancy (Hazen) Meinke, siblings, Lillian Meinke, Richard Meinke; son in law, Raymond Jones and daughter in law Diane Meinke.
Funeral will be 12:30 PM Friday December 14, at the Marcy Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, with Pastor Trudy Hazen family friend officiating. Family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until time of service at the funeral home on Friday, with a luncheon immediately following the service at the Marcy Family Center across the street from the funeral home. Committal service will be 3:00 PM Friday at Greenlawn Memory Gardens, North Kingsville.
Contributions may be made to the Hospice of the Western Reserve. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
