Dorothy Gill Obituary

On August 15, 2025, at the age of 101, Dorothy Helen Johnson Gill, while at home, went peacefully to Heaven to meet Jesus.  To greet her was her husband, Harry Gill, Jr.; her daughters Nancy and Janet;
sons Gary and David; grandsons Larry, Alex, and great-grandson, Ashton.  Her parents and all of her siblings preceded her in death.

Dorothy lived her last years with her son, Roger, and his wife, Connie and Connie’s mother (Alice Colson) in Griffin, Georgia.  Previously, she resided with her husband in Houston, Texas, Conneaut, Ohio, and Youngstown, Ohio.
Family members and friends visited her from all over the country and locally.  Dorothy also had a very special friendship with her neighbor, Penny Griffis, remembering fondly their neighborhood walks.

Born in Youngstown, Ohio, Dorothy worked for the railroad in the office with her father until her marriage to Harry.  Together, they built a life of family, business (Gill Chevrolet-Buick in Conneaut) and world travel.
They were blessed with nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren and one American Field Service Exchange daughter, Maraclai Curi from Brazil.

Dorothy was active in the First United Methodist Church of Conneaut and a 50 year member of Eastern Star.  She enjoyed sewing, did beautiful needlework, and being ‘Grama.’  Family was her greatest joy
and they all say she baked the best pies in the world.

Survivors include her nieces, Carole, Sharon, Patty, and Lynda as well as her nephew, Ron, and their spouses.  They and their families were all included in the 100th birthday celebration in November of 2023, traveling from
Ohio, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and California; zoom calls from Italy and stateside from those who could not be present.  She held court from her recliner and had a wonderful weekend.  In the months to follow, she got to
meet the ’new babies’ for the year with visits from two of her grandchildren and their families.

As per Dorothy’s wishes, a simple graveside service will be held September 26, 2025, 1:00 in the afternoon for ‘Dot’ and Harry in Glenwood Cemetery (Main Street US-20 directly across from the plaza, Conneaut, Ohio)
officiated by Rev. Tim Kraus and recorded music sung by Valerie Clark Gill (Daniel).  The cremains will be interred together.

Special thanks to Eternal Hope Hospice of Griffin, Georgia, Rev. Alan Benson who faithfully visited and served her communion and Moody-Daniel Funeral Home, Zebulon, Georgia.

The family would like to thank Marcy Funeral Home for lovingly taking care of the local arrangements.
