Edward Rettinger Obituary

Edward “Dave” Rettinger, 79, of North Kingsville, passed away Sunday evening, December 22, 2019 at University Hospital Cleveland. He was born May 8, 1940 in McDonald, Pennsylvania, and was the son of Edward J. and Margaret (Wilson) Rettinger.

After high school graduation Dave enlisted in the United States Army serving with the 82nd Airborne Special Forces and was a paratrooper. He was stationed in Germany and also Vietnam. He then began working for Union Carbide (now known as Elkem Metals) in 1967 in maintenance as an electrician retiring in 2001.

Dave was a member of Pierpont Presbyterian Church, the American Legion #485 in McDonald, PA, the Steel Workers Union 3081, where he was past president, and served on Village Council for North Kingsville for 16 years, serving as council president. He was also past president for Kingsville/N. Kingsville Lions Club, and was area district assistant for Little League Softball and umpired for local and state games.

He played football and baseball in high school, enjoyed riding motorcycles, racing stock cars at raceway 7, going to Tionesta to his family camp, hunting, fishing, competition riding horses, and Sunday volleyball games at his house. Dave was known for his sense of humor and sarcasm. Most of all, he loved being with his family.

Survivors include his wife Barbara (Leopard) Rettinger; his children Lana (Skip) Ensman of Conneaut, Michele (Paul) Jones, of Ashtabula, Kellie (Lewis) Dunbar of Cherry Valley, OH, Edward (Chandel) Rettinger of Conneaut, and Sam (Kellie) Rettinger of Kingsville; his grandchildren Jeremy, Jayson, Gage, and Keith Rettinger, Ayrison, Roxanne, and Alex Taylor, Lauren and Lillian Ensman, and Kayla, Ryan, Logan, Luke, and Luci Rettinger; and six great-grandchildren.

He also survived by his sisters Mary Ann (Paul) Barnes of Greensboro, NC, Peggy Joyce (Leonard) Dallapiazza of McDonald, PA, Donna (Dale) Miller of Littleton, PA, Kathleen (Kevin) McCombs of Punta Gorda, FL, and Gayle (James) Sweetie of Littleton, PA; his aunt and uncle Dave and Dorothy Wilson, cousins DJ and Cathy Wilson; and brother-in-law Eugene Leopard.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers Charles and William Rettinger; granddaughter Taylor Rettinger; niece Rebecca Cunningham; nephew John Jay Cunningham; and his mother-in-law and father-in-law Richard and Dorothy Stasiak.

A celebration of life gathering will be 2-5 PM, Saturday, January 25, 2019 at the American Legion Cowle Post #151, 272 Broad St., Conneaut.

Contributions may be made in memory of Dave to his family. Envelopes will be available at the gathering and also at the Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, which is honored to be entrusted with arrangements.
