Eugene (Gene) D. Seaton, 86, of North Kingsville, passed away Wednesday, November 27, 2024 from complications associated with a head injury caused by a fall. Gene was born April 24, 1938 in Wadena, Minnesota, the son of Elizabeth and Ralph Seaton.
After graduating from the University of Minnesota with a bachelor’s degree in metallurgical engineering, Gene went to work at ALCOA in Cleveland. During his 34-year career at ALCOA, he mentored many young engineers and was awarded three ARTHUR VINNING DAVIS Awards for Technical Excellence and the 1994/95 CHAIRMAN’S AWARD for significant contributions forging technologies. While Gene was considered a leading metallurgical expert in the aluminum forging industry, first and foremost, he was a plant metallurgist. He loved spending time on the production floor offering his expertise to those who made the forgings at Vernon Forge and Cleveland Works.
In 1963, the Vietnam War took Gene away from his work as a metallurgist. He went to Naval officer training school and then to sea in support of the troops in Vietnam. Gene loved life at sea, running the ship’s engine room. After his discharge from active service, he returned to ALCOA but continued to serve in the Navy Reserves. He retired in 1988 at the rank of Commander.
Gene was dedicated to his family and took great pleasure in many accomplishments of his children and grandson. He coached youth soccer, attended countless school concerts, ceremonies, and youth sporting events. He enjoyed golfing, was an avid sports fan, and he loved good food and an after dinner sweet treat. Wherever he lived, Gene found a church home and lent his talents to the choir.
Survivors include his wife Cindy (White) Seaton, his daughters Michele Batchler, Angelie Seaton, and Grace Seaton; his son Michael Seaton; and his grandson Andrew Batchler.
He was preceded in death by his parents Elizabeth and Ralph, and his brothers Jerry and Rick Seaton.
A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date and announced by the Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St. Conneaut.
