Frederick Sehnert Obituary

Frederick “Rick” Martin Sehnert, 77, of Conneaut, Ohio passed away unexpectedly in his home on February 11, 2024. He was born July 6, 1946 to Robert and Lois (Kiilsgaard) Sehnert in Sterling, Colorado.

Rick graduated from high school in Milton-Freewater, Oregon, and relocated to Kearney, Nebraska. He entered the United States National Guard, to which he was medically discharged, and attended Kearney State College. Rick married his beloved wife, Roberta “Bobbie” (Smith) in 1968. Together, they raised their three children, and owned and operated Sehnert’s Bakery (Kearney) and Chef’s Backerei (Jacksonville, Florida) before he began his work as an Engineer for CSX Railroad in Florida; retiring in 2012.

After this, Rick pursued some of his lifelong passions of spending quality time with family, traveling, and enjoying the outdoors, including volunteering for state parks in Florida, Alaska, and Tennessee; a berry farm in Tennessee; and fishing in Lake Erie. Rick often shared stories and helped to develop the love of life, family, and the outdoors to those who met or knew him.

Rick was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Ashtabula, Ohio. He was a devoted family man to Bobbi and their children, Robert (Loran) Sehnert of Massillon, OH; daughters Julie (Rick) Pfeifer of St. John, FL and Kaye Sehnert of Kaiserslautern, Germany; grandchildren Aiden Lavelle; Dane, Tor, and Bray Sehnert; Olivia and Gracie Pfeifer; two great grandchildren, Nathan, and Parker Lavelle. In addition, he is survived by his sisters, Jan (Tom) Paxson of Gibbon, Nebraska, and Marilyn (John) DeVries of Vancouver, Washington, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A Celebration of life will be on Saturday February 24 at 11am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 571 Seven Hills Road, Ashtabula, Ohio. Marcy Funeral Home, Conneaut, has been entrusted with arrangements.

Memorial Contributions in his memory can be made to the Warriors and Quiet Waters organization.

Rick was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Lois Sehnert.
