George M. "Sarge" Richards

George “Sarge” Richards, 89, of Conneaut passed away Sunday January 2, 2022 at the Ashtabula County Nursing Home.  He was born September 2, 1932 in North Kingsville, Ohio the son of Miles and Lempi (Hakkarainen) Richards.

George graduated from Rowe High School.  He then enlisted into the US Army during the Korean War obtaining the rank of Corporal. He then served in the Ohio Army National Guard for another twenty-six years obtaining the rank of Master Sergeant.

He worked for First Energy the former CEI as a Senior stock handler in Eastlake, Ohio retiring on August 3, 1993.

George enjoyed camping, basketball, bowling, tennis, football.  He loved following The Ohio State Football.

Survivors include his children, Debra (William) Oakes, David (Colleen), and Sean; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Dolores, son Rick, siblings, Ruth Albee, Dorothy Hill, Marvin, Roy, Harry, and Harold.

Visitation will be held Thursday from 5:00-7:00 PM January 6, 2022 at the Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut. Due to the rise in current COVID numbers, masks are required.

Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association.  Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
