George “Tuna” Snyder
George M. Snyder, age 75, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2026 following an extended illness and ultimately, a fatal stroke.
George was born on February 21 ,1951 in Conneaut, Ohio to John and Dorothy Snyder. Growing up, George began working with his mom when he was young and always maintained a strong work ethic and adventurist spirit that took him away from Conneaut for a few years.
When he returned, his love for the water had him sailing the Great Lakes as a deckhand for 18 months. In 1971, George turned his focus back to the land and began working for the Bessemer & Lake Erie Railroad where he served as a carman and later as a supervisor. When he was not working, George could often be found doing what he loved most – fishing and sharing stories with friends.
In 2006, after 35 years of service, George retired and bought an RV. He and his wife Kim traveled the U.S. for 5 years before settling in Clayton, NC to be near grandchildren.
George lived life to the fullest. Many knew his good nature, contagious laughter and kindness to anyone who needed help. Above all else, George was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his beloved wife, Kim Johnson Snyder; his six children: Michael Snyder of Muscoda, WI, Matt (Kristina) Snyder of Deltona, FL, Christal (Wayne) Martin of Lancaster, SC, Alisann (Royce) Snyder of Columbia SC, stepson Charles Lloyd of Boise, ID, stepdaughter Kelli (Josh) Doty of Garner, NC and his grandchildren: Aaron Snyder, Xavier Snyder, Avery Martin, Mia Martin, Trevon Willis, Tajon Hood, Deondra Harris, Harper Doty, Haedyn Doty and great granddaughter Kaiyah Harris. He is also survived by his brother Jack Snyder and sister Judy Westerburg both of Conneaut, Ohio and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, brothers Charles and Dalton Snyder (at birth) and sister Ruth Watson.
A celebration of life will be held on a summer date to be determined in Conneaut, Ohio.
