George E. Somppi, 69, of Conneaut, passed away Thursday, April 16, 2020, at the David Simpson Hospice House in Cleveland, OH. He was born November 17, 1951, in Conneaut to George I. and Mary (Rist) Somppi.
After graduating high school, George enlisted in the United States Marines where he served from 1969-1971 during Vietnam. After serving his country, he proudly became a life member of the Conneaut VFW post 2836 and was the Quarter Master at one time.
George retired as an electrician from the Conneaut P&C Dock Company, and in earlier years worked a short time for Anheuser Busch and SCM.
He was an avid Harley Davidson enthusiast and rider and he could fix just about anything. Most of all George was a family man, adoring his grandchildren each time they were together.
George is survived by his loving wife, Lynette nee: Smothers Somppi; his daughter Stephanie Van Gorder; a brother Brad (Valerie) Somppi; two grandchildren Sierra and Paul Jr “P.J.” Van Gorder all of Conneaut; and many nieces, nephews and more distant relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Bruce and Dennis.
A private burial with military honors provided by the American Legion Cowle Post #151 will be held.
