Obituary

Helen M. Laine, 99, of Conneaut, passed away Thursday, April 6, 2023 at The Villa at the Lake. She was born February 7, 1924 in Conneaut, the daughter of Adam and Agnes (Dec) Surma.

Helen worked as the secretary for the Nickle Plate Railroad. She was a member of Corpus Christi Parish (St. Frances Cabrini,) and the American Legion Auxiliary, where she had been past president at one time. She worked the Election Day Polls and was a 65-year member of the sewing club. She enjoyed traveling and going with her husband to Army Reunions.

Survivors include her daughters Cindy (Gary) Downs of New Braunfels, TX, and Jaine Laine of Ashtabula; her son Greg (Laura) Laine of Sugar Land, TX; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and more distant relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Arnold, sisters Marian Brennan and Regina Lengyl; and brother Leonard Surma.

A Funeral mass was held at St. Frances Cabrini Church with interment at Greenlawn Memory Gardens, North Kingsville, OH.
