Joan M. (Kleimo) Richards

Joan Marie Richards, age 70, passed away peacefully on May 11, 2022 at the Austinburg Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in the arms of angels and her family.

Joan was a lifelong resident of Conneaut, OH, beloved daughter of Sulo K. Kleimo and Leah E. (Jarvi) Kleimo.  She was a 1970 graduate of Conneaut High School, a devoted mother, and after raising her children, became an Ohio State Trained Nursing Assistant and dedicated her life to kindness and compassion in caring for others at several local nursing home facilities, including Lake Pointe (InnConn), Maples and Ashtabula County Nursing & Rehab Center.

Gentle Joan enjoyed gardening, growing her tomatoes and green beans, cooking, canning, cake decorating, her yard, her people, learning the Finnish language and was known for her baking exceptional Nisu bread.  A believer of steadfast faith, Joan read her Bible daily, was a member since childhood of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, participated in their seniors’ program and the Women of Finnish Heritage gatherings.

Joan is survived by her first best friends and sisters Susan Esposito of Ashtabula, OH, Karen Simons (Thomas Yourchak) of both Bellefonte, PA and Conneaut, OH, her children, Christine Pipers of Ashtabula, OH, Eric (Kim) Richards of Conneaut, OH, her granddaughter Hannah Pipers and several step grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, several aunts, uncles, cousins and her godparents.

Her family gives special thanks to Conneaut Ambulance and Paramedics, UHHS Hospitals, Austinburg Nursing Center, Meals on Wheels and the many others who helped us in caring for her.

Honoring Joan’s wishes, no services were held and her family is privately celebrating her life well lived.
