John E. Myers

John E. Myers “Pop Can Johnny”, 88 of Conneaut, OH, passed away January 9, 2021 at the Ashtabula County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Kingsville, OH where he had resided the last two years.

John was born May 17, 1932 in Conneaut and was the son of Carl and Bertha (Rought) Myers.

After Graduating from Rowe High School in 1953 he served honorably in the United States Army for two years and then went on to work for many years in the laundry department at Brown Memorial Hospital. His main occupation and love of life was working for himself as a metal recycler. This is how he was blessed with the nickname “Pop Can Johnny”. For many years you would see him traveling (on foot) all over Conneaut picking up cans and debris to take to the scrap yard in East Conneaut. He formed many friendships over the years, picking up bags of cans residents would set out for him.

When the daily trips (rain or shine or feet of snow) became too much, John moved to the Ashtabula County Nursing home where he was loved by the entire staff.

John is survived by his sister Ruth Jones of Jefferson and many nieces and nephews whom he loved so much.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Patricia, Mildred, Georgia and Caroline and a brother Charles, and a half-sister Edna Lupe.

A Celebration of life service will be 11:00am, Friday January 15, 2021 in the chapel at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Rt 20 in North Kingsville, OH
