John C. Palo

John Palo, 85 of Conneaut passed away peacefully Thursday, December 24, 2020 at UH Geauga Medical Center. He was born March 29, 1935 to Ruth (Justice) and Maurice Palo and was a lifetime resident of the town he loved, Conneaut.

He graduated Conneaut High in School in 1953 and attended Miami of Ohio University. On July 12, 1958 he married Caroline Weppler his beloved wife of 62 years and together they raised three children, Scott, Jeffery and Randy.

John started his professional career at Exomet in Conneaut as a Laboratory Technician, worked his way up to plant manager.  He continued his career at Molded Fiber Glass in Ashtabula where he worked in a number of management position until his retirement in 1991. Additionally, John was the owner/operator of the Cedar’s Motel in Ashtabula in the 1970s.

Upon his retirement John committed his time to helping improve his community through a number of organizations in Conneaut and Ashtabula County including Conneaut Port Authority, Ashtabula County Port Authority (Charter Member), Northeast Ohio Regional Airport, 503 Corporation (Charter Member), Growth Partnership for Ashtabula County, Regional Alcohol & Mental Health Board, and most recently as a board member of the Robert S. Morrison Foundation. He also enjoyed his longtime membership in the Conneaut Elks (B.P.O.E.).

He is survived by his wife, Caroline, his children Scott Palo of Boynton Beach, Florida, Jeffery Palo of Los Angeles, California, Randy (Laura) Palo of Lake Worth, Florida, his grandchildren, Carling (Jose) Bello, Olivia Palo, Ian Palo, Caroline Palo and his greatgrandchildren Corina Bello and Lucas Bello all of Lake Worth, Florida. He also survived by many loved nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Maurice ‘Skip’ Palo.

Due to Covid-19 there will be no calling hours, funeral service will be private on Wednesday, December 30, at 11:00 at the Marcy Funeral Home, 208 Liberty St. Conneaut, OH. Funeral service will be livestreamed for public viewing on the Marcy Funeral Home Facebook page.
