Jonathan E. Stewart, 82, of East Springfield, PA, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2025. He was born on January 18, 1943, at home in Albion, PA.
Jonathan took on the responsibility and title of “Provider” to many people he cared about, this started early in his life and carried through his lifetime. He began his love of farming at an early age, working on his family farm as well as on many other farms in the community. He graduated from Northwestern High School in 1960 and went on to have a long and successful career at General Electric in Erie before retiring.
At various times in his life: he took great pride in serving as a fireman for the Springfield Volunteer Fire Department. He also took on additional responsibilities, working at Hoover Sand and Gravel and serving as a school bus driver for the Northwestern School District. A man of deep faith, he attended the Federated Church.
Jonathan loved being outdoors, caring for his home and yard, splitting wood, tinkering with his tractor, and embracing every aspect of farm life. He often took long drives through the countryside (occasionally down the middle of the road), stopping to watch farmers till their fields or to admire the peaceful pastures filled with cows. He enjoyed trips to the mountains to see the leaves change in autumn and loved traveling with his wife to visit family around the country.
Among his favorite pastimes were watching birds build their nests each spring and observing the many deer that regularly gathered in his field—blessings he enjoyed from the deck he built onto the back of his home.
Jonathan is survived by his four children: Donna, Todd, Eric, and Jodi; his grandchildren: Ashley, Kayla, Brooke, Tyler, Erin, Lexi, and Kyle; and seven great-grandchildren, with one more on the way. Also surviving are his siblings Al, Grace, Kim, and Debbie.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ella Joan (Smith) Stewart, and his parents, Frances Marie Heaton and Harold Garfield Heaton.
