Joy Estock Obituary

Joy Lynette Fuller Estock—beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, andfriend—passed away peacefully on November 6, 2025, in Hillsboro, Oregon, at the age of 89.Born in Edinboro, Pennsylvania on October 25, 1936, Joy was the daughter of R.A. Adelbert Fuller and Marie Elena Flynn Fuller. She grew up in Edinboro with her siblings, Captain Gae Fuller and Jerry Fuller. A proud graduate of Edinboro High School (Class of 1954), Joy went on to earn her degree in Secondary Education from Edinboro State Teachers College in1958. Her love of learning carried her throughout her life, culminating in a Master of Education from Lake Erie College in 1990.

On August 23, 1958, Joy married Joseph Estock, Jr. at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Edinboro. Together they built a life grounded in family, faith, and service. In 1987, they founded Creative Millwork of Ohio—a testament to their hard work, creativity, and entrepreneurial spirit.

Joy devoted her professional life to teaching high school mathematics, especially geometry. She taught in Belle Vernon, Pennsylvania; at Edgewood High School in North Kingsville, Ohio; and at Conneaut High School in Conneaut, Ohio, retiring in 1997. She also gave her time to the Conneaut Band Boosters, serving as president at one time. Generations of students remember her for her clarity, encouragement, and the confidence she sparked in those who thought they “just weren’t good at math.”

She was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church (now New Leaf Methodist Church) in Conneaut, Ohio. As part of her life in the church, she actively supported various church ministries and was a member of United Methodist Women. Joy also valued her involvement with Habitat for Humanity, the Ohio Education Association and the Edinboro Historical Society, reflecting her lifelong commitment to service and education.

Joy’s creativity and curiosity flowed into every corner of her life. She was an avid quilter, a painter, a card maker, and a devoted genealogist. She tended both the living and the stories of those who came before her, piecing together the threads of family history with the same care and imagination she brought to her quilts and paintings. While her hands created beauty, her heart was always open to those around her.

One of the most cherished chapters of Joy’s life unfolded at Wallowa Lake United Methodist Camp in northeastern Oregon. What began as a trip to Family Camp with her grandchildren grew into a twenty-five-year connection to a place she came to call her spiritual home. Even while living in Ohio, she returned for quilt retreats and treasured the friendships and beauty she found there. Her generosity helped shape the camp through gifts such as Buck’s Cabin, renovations to the Quad, and contributions to the upper bathhouse. Her family now continues that legacy with the dedication of Joy Cabin, a place where her spirit of welcome and joy will live on.

Joy is preceded in death by her husband Joseph, her son Mark Estock, her sister Gae, and her parents. She is survived by her brother Jerry Fuller (Carol) of Tacoma, Washington; her daughters Rev. Beth Ann Estock (Jeffrey Petrillo) of Portland, Oregon, and Marie Estock (Dj Merrill) of Topsham, Maine; and her daughter-in-law Cindy Estock of Madison, Ohio. She leaves behind a loving legacy through her grandchildren—Brian Estock (Brittany), Scott Estock (Jamie), Matthew Estock (Megan), Christopher Estock, Andrew Estock, Hannah Petrillo, and Sarah Petrillo (Sanjay Singh)—as well as eight great-grandchildren, two nieces, and many cousins.

Joy’s life was a beautiful tapestry of love, learning, creativity, and service. Her story now lives on not only in those who loved her, but in the places she cherished—especially the camp where generations of her family have walked, played, and rested. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
