Joyce Funk Obituary

Joyce A. Funk, 88, of Conneaut passed away Saturday afternoon April 8th, 2023, surrounded by her family.  She was welcomed by her Lord and Savior saying, “well done good and faithful servant”.

She was born August 25, 1934, in Conneaut to the proud parents Fred and Inis (Brown) Barnard. She was part of a blended family, but her motto was two halves make a whole! Joyce graduated from Rowe High School in 1952.  She married the love of her life, William (Bill) R. Funk in 1953.  They were married 62 years and were blessed with four children, 6 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Joyce worked various jobs throughout her life but retired from P & C Dock Co. after 23 years of service in 1993.  The job she enjoyed the most was being a mother and grandmother.  After being married for 62 years of marriage and raising her 4 children, her children think she should be nominated for sainthood.

Her faith was very important to her.  She grew up in the United Methodist Church, knowing the Lord, singing in the choir, serving on many church boards.  She was a current member of Kelloggsville Church of the Nazarene.

In her lifetime she enjoyed many activities. We would all agree that spending time in her garden and feeding the birds were her passion.  She had multiple flower bed gardens where she spent hours creating a beautiful display to be viewed by many.  She was a member of the North Kingsville Garden Club.   In her younger days she enjoyed bowling and golfing.  Watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren playing various sports was a highlight for her.

Joyce was a wonderful cook and baker!  She will always be remembered for making grandma’s famous pies, cousin sleepovers, golfing adventures, and her loving ways!  She will be missed and loved by many.

Joyce is survived by her children: Cheryl (Hugh Hillyer) Johnston, Bill (Becky) Funk, Gary (Julie) Funk, Laurie (Larry) Funk-Carola, Grandchildren:  Brian Lamont, Liz (Bryan) Lenzner, Cory (Valerie Smith) Funk, Amanda (Josh) Funk Hoag, Rob (Melissa Spears) Johnston, Kayla Funk, 15 Great Grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and a very special friend Charles Penniman.

Preceded in death by her husband Bill, parents, sisters, and brother. Along with two sons in law: Dewey Johnston and Dave Moon.

Memorial service will be held 12:00Noon Saturday April 15, 2023 at the Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, where the family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until time of service at the funeral home.

Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, North Kingsville.
