Laurel “Larry” V. Hicks, 96, of Conneaut, passed away early Monday morning, September 11, 2023 at Pleasant Ridge in Girard, PA. He was born August 8, 1927 in Conneaut, the son of Kenneth and Etta (Messenger) Hicks.
Larry graduated high school and enlisted in the United States Navy serving during World War II. After his honorable discharge, he worked for Hammermill Paper in Erie, PA for 27 years and then drove as a professional driver for Ringsway Tour Bus Company.
He was a member of Conneaut First Assembly of God where he served on the church board and played guitar in the church orchestra. He attended Conneaut Church of God and enjoyed woodworking, hunting and fishing, and had flown his own plane and was taught by Al Gardner,
Survivors include his son Wayne (Darla) Hicks of Pierpont; daughter Renee Renshaw of Conneaut; grandchildren Scott Smith, BJ Riggs, Michael Armstrong, Christian Armstrong, Steven Armstrong; six great-grandchildren; sister Kay Loosie Parnell of Simko, Ontario; and brothers Ronald (Dede) Hicks and Michael (Sue) Hicks, both of Conneaut.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Delores (Humphrey) Hicks in 2003; son Richard Armstrong; sisters MaryAnn Buckner and Marleen Daggett; and brother Kenneth A. Hicks.
Funeral service will be 1:00 PM, Thursday, September 14, 2023 at the Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, with burial following in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, North Kingsville, OH. Military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Cowle Post #51.
Visitation will be held 11:00 AM until the time of the service at 1:00 PM on Thursday.
