LeRoy H. “Swanny” Swan, 86, of Monroe Township, passed away Monday afternoon, April 4, 2022. He was born April 24, 1935, in Willoughby, OH, the son of Everette and Myrtle (Meek) Swan.
LeRoy graduated high school and enlisted in the Army. He was called to active duty for two years, serving in France for a couple months. He completed his service in the National Guard.
After his discharge from the service, LeRoy traveled the US extensively. After settling back in
Willoughby he worked as an arborist. He was a laborer in Cleveland and retired at the age of 70 from Biodolillo Masonry. He was a member of the Federated Church, and Local Union 496. He hosted foreign exchange students Toshiko and Masataka Yonei and Takehiro Kawamura, all from Japan. He loved to have breakfast every day at State Street Diner and hanging out at the bookstore with Mark, gardening, farming, hunting, rock building, tree trimming, water skiing, was a great swimmer, had a brown belt in karate, and teaching his grandchildren how to do things. Most of all, he loved spending time with family.
LeRoy never missed a beat, he enjoyed teasing people to get a rise out of them and telling people like it was and why. He was a hard-working man who treated everyone alike, he was very giving and always had an open door.
“If you care so much about it, then do something about it,” was his motto.
