Linda “OJ” Ojajarvi passed away unexpectedly January 28, 2020, the first morning of her new life with her husband, John and dog, Wrigley in The Villages, Florida. She was the daughter of George and Mayme (Maki) Ojajarvi of Conneaut, Ohio.
A 1970 graduate of Edgewood Sr. High School, she received bachelors’ degrees in sociology and nursing from Wright State University and a master’s degree in nursing from the University of Southern Maine. She worked with troubled teens, was a mental health crisis counselor and a nurse for Aids patients and others in hospice and palliative care. She retired as Clinical Director of Hospice Compassus, Sedona AZ in 2010.
Her wisdom and compassionate acceptance of people along with her sense of humor and positive outlook on life will be sorely missed by her family, friends, patients, staff and the many lives she touched. Linda was extremely proud of her Finnish heritage, an avid reader and writer; also enjoying weaving, sailing, golf and dog rescue.
Linda is survived by her husband, John Lelak, sister Mary (Doug) Bouck of Aurora OH, nieces Liisa Johnson and Joy (Chris) Barton plus 10 great nieces and nephews.
The family would welcome memorial contributions to the Finnish American Heritage Association (FAHA), 4107 Diane Dr., Ashtabula OH 44004, or to a shelter for women of your choice. Envelopes will be available at the Marcy Funeral Home, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, which is honored to be assisting the family.
