Lona Loyd Obituary

Lona K. Loyd, 83 formerly of Conneaut, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2024, at David Simpson Hospice House in Cleveland, OH. She was born September 24, 1940, to James and Kathryn (Sprague) Buttermore in Painesville, OH.

Lona graduated in 1958 from Madison High School and went to work as a clerk for Euclid Electric and MFG. Her love of children showed through her many years in childcare, working for the Child Care Center, former Midwest Child Care and the Parish Child Care Centre.

She was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ for many years where she was once a trustee, Sunday school teacher, finance secretary, part of the activities committee, and church council, and the childcare center board over 20 yrs.

In her pastime, she enjoyed crocheting and making crafts, volunteering for the Conneaut Hospital Thrift Shop and One Step Program, watching the Cleveland Guardians and Browns. Most of all, she loved spending time with friends and family.

Lona is survived by her son Michael Garbutt of Conneaut and three granddaughters Erin (Marc) Bovee of Ashtabula, Kayla Scheanon of Ashtabula, and Mercedes (Mike) Dross of Tallahassee, FL, and four great grandchildren Auroara Scheanon, Nolan, Aubrey and Gabe Dross. Sister Laura (Ben) Pierce of Perry, OH, brother James (Jan) Sprague of The Villages FL, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and daughter Nancy Bregar (Strubbe).

At the request of Lona, there will not be any services observed at this time.
