Loren “Glenn” Smith, 87, was born October 7, 1937 and died July 12, 2025 from heart failure. He was a resident of the Villa at the Lake for the past 8 years.
Glenn was one of four children born to Loren “Gould” Smith and Mabel Katherine (Thompson) Smith. In his earlier years, Glenn was a farmer but soon found his niche in life as an over-the-road truck driver. He traveled the country from coast to coast many times and was very proud of his safety record of over a million miles accident free. He drove for several trucking companies throughout his career, including R.F. Truesdale, Townsquare, Hammermill Paper Company, ABF, and Neff & Jevic.
Glenn is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Violet Smith, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Glenn is survived by his four children Jeff and Lisa Smith of Pflugerville, TX, Joi and Robert Van Slyke of Albion, PA, Deb and Rick Robson of Conneaut, OH, and Deri and Becky Smith of Attleboro, MA. He is also survived by his brothers Larry Smith of North Tonawanda, NY, and Bill Smith of Erie, PA, along with numerous cousins and friends. He had 5 grandchildren Charity and Keith Simko, Christy and Aaron Barnes, Samantha and Eric Rogers, Jennifer and Sean O’Neill, and Bryan and Chelsea Van Slyke; and 16 great-grandchildren, Aaron, Chloe, Chaz, Ethan, Judah, Fynn, Trent, Bryce, Ben, Levi, Becca, Sullivan, Liam, Lennox, Oliver, and Brayden.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Villa at the Lake, where he made a lot of friends over his 8 years of residence. We also thank the staff of Hospice of the Western Reserve for their kindness and care along with his spiritual caregivers and friends Pastor Mike Nevseta and Pastor Ed Huntley.
Per Glenn’s request, there will be no services. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity in his memory. Envelopes will be available at the Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, which had been entrusted with his arrangements.
