Lucile Roya Obituary

Lucile M. Roya, 93, passed away August 18, 2025 at The Villa at the Lake, surrounded by her family and her friends from Hospice of the Western Reserve. She was born January 19, 1932, in Erie, PA, the only child to John P. and Velma (Brooks) Sumner.

Lucile graduated from West Springfield High School in 1949 and Erie Commercial College in 1952, where she studied business training.

She served as a Sunday School helper at the Federated Church for 10 years in the Preschool Dept. She was recently a member of the Grace United Methodist Church. Lucile enjoyed embroidery and had a vast doll collection.

Lucile is survived by her loving family which includes her son Robert and Joi Van Slyke of Albion, PA, and daughters Susan Van Slyke of Edinboro, PA, and Sandra and Tim Adang of Conneaut, OH. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren, Christy and Aaron Barnes, Jennifer and Sean O’Neill, Bryan and Chelsea Van Slyke, Jason Klobusnik, Casey Klobusnik, Seth and Rue Pieper, and Adam and Celeste Pieper; and 10 great-grandchildren Aaron, Chloe, Sullivan, Liam, Lennox, Oliver, Cecelia, Augustus, Sophia and Brayden.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her 3 husbands, Frederick Van Slyke, Michael McTigue, and Lynford Roya.

The family would like to thank the staff of The Villa at the Lake, where she made lots of friends during this past year. We also thank the staff of Hospice of the Western Reserve for their kindness and care along with her spiritual caregivers Pastor Ed Huntley and Pastor Nevseta.

Services will be private, and private burial will take place in Springfield Cemetery.
