Marlin "Bob" Haas Obituary

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, Marlin R. (Bob) Haas Sr., 87, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, November 7, 2025, surrounded by his family.

He was born June 15, 1938, in Akron, OH, the son of Marlin C. and Audrey (Conley) Haas. He worked in the waste disposal industry in many capacities his entire life. He started out as a helper, became a driver and then was promoted into management, which eventually brought him to Conneaut Ohio where he consolidated three smaller haulers into one for Waste Mgmt. and ran the office and garage. They eventually closed their Northeastern Ohio operations and moved operations to Erie PA

Once operations were relocated to Erie, he managed the office, transfer station and garage working 70 to 80 hours a week on salary. He became tired of the long hours and moved into the garage. He was eventually convinced to run the recycling plant in Erie for them until his retirement.

After a couple years of leisure, Bob put side panels on his pickup truck and started BnB Disposal hauling trash for a few friends. About five years in, he purchased a U-Haul truck and put a liner in it. He kept growing and finally, with two small rear-enders and several U-Haul trucks, the company grew to well over 2,000 customers providing trash service and cleanup services. Until a couple months ago, he was hands-on running the operation with assistance of his oldest son Marlin R. Haas, Jr., who is now running the family business.

Bob was active in his church serving as maintenance man and director of properties for Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Conneaut. He loved going to glass factories, collecting paperweights, coins, and stamps. He also enjoyed going to auctions and was a beekeeper for many years winning 1st place ribbons for his honey at the Ashtabula County Fair.

Bob met the love of his life Patricia (Schaar) while they were both taking ballroom dance lessons. He often joked that he only took dance lessons so he could meet pretty girls. They were married in April 1957 and created many memories together. They enjoyed spending time with family and traveling to places like Las Vegas, Mexico, Canada, Florida, California, and Arizona to name a few. Bob and Pat also ran Pat’s Lakeside Grill at Conneaut Township Park for 20 years. He was known as a very generous man with a heart of gold who often helped people quietly. He loved people and was found at Township Park talking to someone every day for many years. He was a wonderful man, and an idol to his family.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years Patricia (Schaar) Haas whom he loved dearly; his sister Kimberly (Tony) Lancaster; His children Sandy (Ken) Piper, Marlin (Sharon) Haas Jr., Raymond (Kimberly) Haas; grandchildren: Jason (Angie) Haas, Ashley (Mike Schoonover) Ingramm, David (Bobbie Blankenship) Ingramm, Bryan (Kimmy) Ingramm, Brandy (Mike Warren) Haas, Shannon (Josh) Maxey, Joshua (Rachael) Haas, and Dakota (Ciara) Davis, Jamee Ayers, Zachary (Mikayla) Ayers and Nicole Albright; and twenty eight great grandchildren. He is also survived by many friends, loyal customers, and his longest employee and close friend, Roy “Chopper” McCumber, Jr.

He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son William Kenneth Haas, a granddaughter Jaime Drew, great-grandchildren Noah Ingramm and Locke Maxey, and his brother Donald (Alice) Haas.
