Norma Allshouse Obituary

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of our mother, Norma Louise (Specht) Allshouse. Mom left us on June 2nd, 2024, after a beautifully lived life.

Norma was born on October 17, 1929 in Conneaut, Ohio to Tony and Jessie Specht. She attended St Mary’s School and Conneaut High School where she graduated in 1947. She went on to pursue a career in nursing and earned her R.N. in 1950. That same year, she married her high school sweetheart Bob Allshouse at St. Mary's church in Conneaut, Ohio. Together, they had 8 children.

Norma worked as a registered nurse at Brown Memorial Hospital for many years before her and Bob decided to relocate to Englewood Florida in 1979.  After moving to Florida, she worked as the supervisor of nursing for The Nursing Pavilion North, where she worked until her retirement.

Whats more important than where Norma worked, or where she went to school, is what kind of a mother she was. Her biggest accomplishment was her eight children. Being an only child, she always longed for a big family, and she sure got it with us. As busy as she was with eight children and a full-time nursing career, we always felt her love as the most powerful force on earth.

She was most comfortable in the kitchen and loved to bake and cook for her large family. With 10 people around the dinner table every night, she always managed to have a homemade meal, often complete with dessert. Pies! Boy could mom make pies. She was pretty much known for them, and no occasion went by where mom wouldn't bring many pies. Butter pecan, lemon, meringue, coconut cream, apple, cherry, pumpkin, butterscotch, you name it, mom could make it. She once won first place for her apple pie at a county fair.

Norma enjoyed music, even when she became sick with Alzheimer's, music would light up her eyes. She also loved dancing with the love of her life, Bob. We all know they are dancing together once again.

We are very sad by the loss of our mother but very happy that she is finally at peace and in the arms of our Lord.

Norma is survived by six of her eight children: Michael and Cheryl Allshouse, Daniel and Anna Allshouse, Rex and Vickie Allshouse, Beth and Joseph Weber, Bobby and Kalli Allshouse and Janet and Joe Hayes. She also leaves behind a big "flock" of grandchildren and great grandchildren, who would have been blessed to have known her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, her oldest daughter, Sharon Louise, and her youngest daughter, Rebecca Lynn.

Mom, as you gave birth to each of us and observed our first breath, we wonder if it was as stirring to you as your last breath was to us.  There are no goodbyes for us, mom. Wherever you are, you will always be in all of our hearts. Your legacy will be forever etched in our minds. May you rest in eternal peace.
