Pastor Brian M. Ewig

Pastor Brian M. Ewig, 59, of Conneaut, passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 3, 2025. He was born on November 14, 1966 to Dennis and Geraldine (Gates) Ewig in Erie, Pennsylvania.

Brian was a Conneaut High School graduate. Following graduation he attended Bluffton College earning a bachelor’s degree in Communicative Studies, and recently obtained his degree in pastoral studies from Baptist Leadership Academy.

He was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church in Conneaut, served as Interim Pastor for two years, and has been Pastor at First Baptist Church of Andover for nearly five years. Before his ministry, he worked as a reporter for the News Herald, The Gazette, and Star Beacon.

Brian had a great love for playing chess and belonged to the Ashtabula County Chess Club where he had just won the Championship in November. Whether he played in person or online it was what he enjoyed doing. Over the years, he collected several hats, and those who knew him would often see him in all the different ones from his collection. In his free time he enjoyed traveling and going to see the opera at Tinsel Towne.

He is survived by his mother, Geraldine, and his sister, Bethany Ewig, both of Conneaut, OH; his stepbrother, David Conroy, of Snow Hill, NC, his aunts, Janet (Steven) Katulich of Leonardtown, MD, and Linda (Dennis) Rote of Martinez, GA; as well as numerous cousins.

Brian was preceded in death by his father Dennis, stepfather James Conroy, maternal and paternal grandparents, uncle Larry (Sharon) Ewig, and Aunt Lorie (Todd) Prenatt.

Funeral Service will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, December 9, 2025 with an hour of visitation prior to the service from 10:00AM until 11:00 at the Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the First Baptist Church of Andover. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
