Patrick J. (Grandpa) Savage

Beloved Father, Father-in-law, and Grandfather, Patrick J. (Grandpa) Savage, 92, of Conneaut, passed away early Monday morning, March 27, 2023 at The Villa at the Lake. He was born December 16, 1930 in Cleveland, the son of Joseph and Frances (Powalski) Savage.

Patrick was drafted into the United States Army where he served as a Military Policeman in Korea from 1952 through 1954 during the Korean War.

After his honorable discharge, he became a carpenter working for the Carpenters Union, and later worked for Pymatuning State Park.

Patrick was a life member of the American Legion Cowle Post #151 and a 50-year member of the NRA. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, even took the scouts to Canada to fish. He was a legendary fisherman on Pymatuning Lake.

In his golden years, he enjoyed going to casinos, a good game of Texas hold’em, playing Dominoes, fireworks, and concocting his famous jello shots.

Patrick had the best personality and was the biggest jokester. He was “Grandpa” to everyone he met, and will be greatly missed at the table by the poker gang.

Survivors include his daughter Dale (George) Distel; sister Helen Sewell; brother Robert Savage; daughter-in-law Jeanette Drake; grandchildren Curt (Lisa) Distel, Nick (Lauren) Distel, Christian (Amanda) Drake, Bogart (Chuning) Drake, granddaughter-in-law Lori Distel; great-grandchildren Kristiana, Wyatt, Delaney, Robert, Jonathan, Owen, Evelyn, Nathaniel, and Jakub; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Helen Drake Savage in 2001; his son David Drake; beloved grandson Jon Distel; and sisters Jean and Arline Savage.

Prayer service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, May 13, 202 at the Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, with Deacon Nicholas Iarocci officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the American Legion Cowle Post #151 concluding the prayer service. Inurnment will follow in Williamsfield Cemetery, Andover, OH.

Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until the time of the service at 11:00 AM.
