Philip E. Smothers 80, of Conneaut died October 29, 2021, at Carrington Park Care Center in Ashtabula, OH. He was born December 4, 1940, and the son of Rene and Helen (Ritari) Smothers.
After graduation, Philip joined the Untied States Army and served during the Vietnam era. After being honorably discharged from the Army, he returned to Conneaut and began his career at Unisys as a computer engineer and later retired from sailing on the Great Lakes.
He was a member of Corpus Christi Parrish and enjoyed being involved with many church activities, especially performing prayer services for inmates at the Lake Erie Correctional Facility.
Philip was an avid of sports especially attending his nieces and nephews’ sports activities during their high school years and beyond.
He is survived by three sisters Laurene (Jim) Foster of Harwich Massachusetts and Lynette Somppi of Conneaut, OH., Nancy (Dave) White of Monroe Twp, OH., and a brother Michael Smothers of Conneaut, OH.; and several nieces, nephews, and more distant cousins.
At Philips request there will be no local services and burial will take place at Rittman National Cemetery at a later date.
