Ralph W. Volk, 94, of Kingsville, passed away Wednesday, October 2, 2024 at the David Simpson Hospice House in Cleveland. He was born April 17, 1930 in Conneaut, the son of William and Virginia Volk.
Ralph graduated from Edgewood High School and was drafted into the United States Army and served in the EOD division in Korea. After his honorable discharge from the Army, he worked for Dunbar and Sullivan Dredging Company in marine construction and retired from Merrit-Chapman & Scott.
He was a member of the American Legion Neal Post 743 in North Kingsville, the Conneaut Fish & Game Club and was a regular at Jack's Snug Harbor Bait & Tackle in Conneaut. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and playing softball for many years. Ralph was an avid bowler with two perfect 300 games. He was also a Cleveland Guardians fan.
Survivors include his wife Janet (Whelpley) Volk, whom he married December 4, 1970; daughter Karen (Mark) Catania of Erie; son David Volk of Erie; step sons Dan (Melissa) Fenton of Kelloggsville, Jeff (Joyce) Fenton of Jefferson and Don Fenton of Conneaut; grandchildren Leanna, Leslie, Nicole, Gina, Bethany, Jacob, Jack, and Daniel; 12 great-grandchildren; and his sisters Ruth (Chuck) Carlisle of Tennessee, Susan (Jim) Chaney of West Virginia, Joni (Les) Graeff of Nebraska, and Joyce Volk of Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister Willa Dean; his brothers Frank Volk and Neil Volk; Joshua and Gracie Fenton.
Celebration of life will be incorporated with his sister Willa’s service who passed away in March, at 2:00 PM, Sunday, October 13, 2024 at the Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, with visitation from 1:00 PM until the time of the service at 2:00 PM. Military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Neal Post 743.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Legion Neal Post 743, Conneaut Fish & Game Club for the annual fishing derby, or Hospice of the Western Reserve. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
